Bruce Bell: July 11, 2011

From the Uco Valley vineyard adjacent to the eastern Andes, 4,000 feet above sea level, comes the knock-out Alhambra Malbec Reserva. Almost opaque in color; one’s nose and palate are inundated by its rich and ripe aromas and flavors of black and blue fruits, cassis, blueberry and blackberry, dark chocolate, espresso and grilled meat. With an unctuous mouthfeel, it has heft and depth of flavor and a beautifully rounded texture. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 12 months in French and American oak, its finish is long and juicy. After one sip of Alhambra, you won’t be able to resist saying “where’s the beef!”

Katherine Able: May 8, 2011

The Alhambra Malbec grapes come from vines that were planted in 1922. They are only allowed water from the Andes Mountains reservoirs once a week for irrigation. As a result of these factors, you have a beautiful wine with concentrated fruit and intense flavors. At the same time this wine is soft, yet structured, showing layers of spice along with toasty oak. The vines are tended by hand and the grapes handpicked, and all this tender loving care shows through in the quality!
