The 2004 Reserva Aged 5 Years is a bit more deeply colored while revealing aromas of damp earth, mocha, tobacco, and black cherry. On the palate it is sweetly fruited, easy-going, and nicely balanced leading to a seamless, fruity finish. Drink this excellent value over the next 6 years. It is worth the $1 premium.

The Valdepeñas (yet another name for Tempranillo) has always had a faithful following, prized for the smooth, ripe wines it produces and for the mellowing effect it has when used in blends. This medium-bodied red shows dark berry, black cherry and cassis flavors, structured by lightly chewy tannins. There’s a pretty violet note, with hints of graphite and smoke. Pair this wine with grilled flank steak with horseradish sauce.

Lighter bodied Tempranillo, with a lean, cherry-focused palate. Still bright, even after five years of aging, and very fresh tasting. Great for a quiet meal at home; serve with hamburger, risotto or light pasta dishes.
