Delightfully complex, elegant, rich and subtle, with a core of ripe, spicy currant, black cherry and plum that’s pure and focused, supple and juicy, with an amazing finish that reverberates with flavor. Shows great balance, concentration and persistence. Best from 2010 through 2020. 750 cases made.

A true star of the vintage, capturing the essence of great Cabernet, with an array of rich, fine-tuned dark berry, earth, mineral, graphite and tobacco leaf notes. The sum of the parts is what makes this shine. No sign of fatigue, though now is an ideal time to enjoy this. Yum.—2006 California Cabernet blind retrospective (December 2015). Drink now through 2022. 750 cases made.

Bright, dark ruby. Superripe aromas of raspberry compote and graphite minerality are complicated by a touch of herbs. In a rather muscular, backward style and a bit tough to taste today. Displays the slightly earthy, autumnal qualites often found in the ’96s but also possesses very good bite. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. Much less opulent than the 2007. Bettina Bryant noted that this wine was a bit rustic in its youth, and it still needs further aging.

Made in a full-bodied, more masculine style, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon offers more evolved aromas of high class, unsmoked cigar tobacco, blackberries, black currants, earth, and underbrush. It is a deep, dense, ruggedly constructed Cabernet revealing powerful tannins in the finish. While outstanding, it is dwarfed by the monumental quality of the 2007. Give it 1–2 years of cellaring, and consume it over the following two decades.
