Merlot is named after the blackbird, and thus, Oberon’s Napa Valley offering is truly singing in the dead of night. The Oberon is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months and blended with 4.8% Cabernet. Deep ruby in color. A nose of stewed raspberries and chocolate gives way to silky tannins, black cherries and tobacco on the palate. The finish displays pleasant notes of licorice. All my life, I was only waiting for this moment to arise. Give the Zinfandel a break next time you have a cheeseburger (do yourself a favor and splurge on gruyère) and try this instead.

Here is another fine production from the Mondavi family. The grapes used to make this Merlot are sourced from some of the finest regions in Napa Valley. Ripe, lush fruit abounds, with black cherries, red currant and cassis on the palate. The wine has a lengthy finish with balanced acidity and tannins.
