Focused, with the grip of the vintage, this is holding its core of black cherry, garrigue and tar notes in reserve for now, while coffee, briar and licorice root notes hold sway on the structured finish. Best from 2010 through 2018.

The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape has a deep ruby/purple color and classic Provencal aromatics of garrigue, ground pepper, kirsch, and loamy soil notes. Medium to full-bodied, richly fruity, it has soft, silky tannins and decent acidity. This is a 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape to drink now and over the next 10–12 years.

Dark red. Powerfully aromatic nose offers smoky, gamey strawberry and raspberry aromas, with suave herb and spice qualities adding intrigue. Silky red berry preserve flavors combine depth and freshness, conveying a deft marriage of fruit and tannins and impressive finishing sweetness. This is delicious right now.

Ground black pepper and smoke dominate the nose and are immediately followed by fresh strawberry and raspberry on the palate. The 2005 vintage seamlessly merges dark earth and spice with uncharacteristically bright fruit to produce a memorable and extremely drinkable Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
