Forward, with tasty dark fig and blackberry fruit mixed in with notes of mocha, fruitcake and sweet tobacco. A nice dash of grip on the finish keeps this honest. Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache. Drink now.

The simple wines that come from the Rhône region of France are some of my favorites. This red blend is 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. The winemakers allow the grapes to breathe out and the use of oak barrels is restricted as much as possible. This brings out the fruit and creates a structured but subtle, easy-drinking wine. Serve with blackened salmon or barbecued or grilled chicken.
