86 pts. Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: June, 2010
Barba’s 2008 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vasari is an attractive, mid-weight red with a vinous, fresh personality and good overall length. The 2008 is a touch compact, but that is a small criticism at this price point. Anticipated maturity: 2010–2013.

The Montepulciano grape is quite prolific; plump, with high amounts of deep purple- and ruby-colored juice, it makes nice wines even when grown in large quantities. This example shows lower acidity and mild, sweet tannins; it has a slightly floral nose with a touch of toasty oak. Abundant flavors of blueberries, raspberries and strawberries are well balanced, with a hint of spice on the finish. Delightful to serve with lasanga or chicken cacciatore.
