Ric McLeod: April 14, 2011
Alsace is a land where Gewûrtztraminer (translated as “spicy wine”) flourishes. The 2009 Ziegler illustrates classic spice aromas and citric fruit flavors that hint of lychee nut and a qualifying mineral element that defines its origin as well as its genetics. Thirst-quenching, semi-dry flavors are nicely balanced with a gentle acidity that is pleasing to the palate. The true virtue of this versatile grape is its innate ability to complement a wide range of food flavors. Have some fun in the sun this summer and try it with Thai, Caribbean and Cajun cuisine, a gustatory delight for the ages.

Very aromatic, with scents of grapefruit, lychee and peaches. The flavors mimic the nose but include mango and peaches; round, satisfying finish. Goes well with Thai spicy dishes, roasted pork, duck l’orange, and baked ham with pineapple rings and green bean almondine.
