The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape should rank alongside the greatest wine Charvin has made to date, the 2007. The dense purple-colored 2010 exhibits a beautiful, precise nose of licorice, black cherries, garrigue, dark raspberries and black currants. Full-bodied with fresh acids as well as a floral note, this potentially sensational Chateauneuf du Pape should drink well for 15 or more years.

More backward and concentrated, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as dense, black raspberry, black currant, garrigue, licorice and lavender characteristics. Full-bodied with undeniable elegance, minerality and precision, it needs 2–3 years of cellaring and should keep well for 15–20.

A juicy and brambly style, with thick plum skin, raspberry and blackberry fruit at the core, lined with toasted spice, roasted apple wood and dark licorice snap notes. The dark fruit is offset nicely by a perfumy black tea note, and the finish is lined with a fine minerality, with nice grip for balance overall. There's lots of range to this, and it should age beautifully. Best from 2015 through 2030.

Bright purple. Heady red and dark berry preserve and floral aromas, with bright spice and mineral nuances adding vivacity. Concentrated but impressively energetic, offering sappy black raspberry and blueberry flavors that are firmed by zesty minerality. Smoothly plays richness off finesse, finishing on a resonating note of candied flowers.

Youthful purple. Deeply pitched aromas of raspberry, boysenberry, Indian spices and incense, plus a strong note of candied lavender. Lush, creamy red and blue fruit flavors are strikingly fresh, with a zesty mineral spine adding vivacity. Deep but surprisingly lithe, finishing with strong punch, clarity and spicy persistence.
