The 2001 Barolo Brunate, from one of Barolo’s most storied sites, presents a dark ruby color along with a deep, penetrating nose of spices, menthol and eucalyptus. Layers of super-rich dark fruit, menthol, toasted oak and balsamic notes emerge in this beautifully delineated chameleon-like wine which at times appears soft and feminine, while at others appears weighty and authoritative. Anticipated maturity: 2009–2019.

Bright, dark red. Musky aromas of raspberry, nutmeg, mace, chocolate and dried flowers. Sweeter and denser than the Bricco Viole but quite backward. A full, chewy, rather powerful wine with very good inner-mouth energy. Finishes long and powerful, with substantial tannic clout and lingering sweetness. This will require at least a few years to soften.

Very fresh and fruity with mineral, berry and raspberry aromas and flavors. Full and silky. Needs time to develop. Best after 2008.
