Fresh, complex and airy, this traces a straight line down the palate while its sweet tropical citrus flavors expand. Full-on spice brightens the fleshy lime and orange finish, with cider-like acidity bringing flavor up from under the tongue. A great match for sushi, particularly belly tuna.

Attention red wine drinkers: have you ever wished white wines could be more like reds? When you’re forced to drink white, do you ever wish it had texture, more flavors on the nose, more complexity, maybe a little tannin -—in other words, a red wine disguised as a white? If you can sympathize with this feeling, you need to try this white from Movia — a 300-year-old winemaking estate that has recently emerged on the international scene as one of Europe’s most cutting-edge Biodynamic wineries. Movia, which is located in Slovenia but has vineyards which cross the border into the Italian region of Friuli, has created a white wine for red drinkers. Ribolla is one of Friuli’s oldest indigenous grape varieties and will thrill lovers of Tocai Friuliano and Soave. Extended skin contact, aging in traditional Slovenian oak casks and barriques, two years on the lees, biodynamic process such as natural yeast fermentation, and the uniquely full-bodied character of Ribolla make this wine feel like an old red. For the wine geek looking for something completely offbeat, with a yen for earthy, big-bear-hug-of-tannin Italians, this is a must-try. A simply groundbreaking wine.
