The 2013 Riesling Select, sourced from the winery’s oldest (1979) vineyard block, has 33 grams per liter of residual sugar and comes in at 11.4% alcohol. With this wine, Wagner’s ability to deliver lovely Riesling at bargain-basement prices becomes almost comical. It seems rich and full, but the sugar and concentration are not otherwise all that apparent, as the wine’s acidity keeps it in impeccable balance. In FLX in general, I thought the wineries generally did a better job with the dry bargains rather than the semi-dry and sweet bargain levels, but Wagner does a great job here of maintaining freshness. It will be interesting to see if this holds itself together as it ages. I bet that it will. In any event, it’s hard to ask much more of a winery than delivery of wines like this at the price point indicated.

Ripe, with a light ginger frame around the flattering yellow apple fruit and honeysuckle notes. The broad, open-knit finish shows a clearly sweet edge, remaining fresh enough. Drink now. 1,820 cases made.

Quite a tropical expression of Riesling, this lush wine opens with scents of ripe honeydew, guava, and petrol. The palate is full-bodied and rich, with a low-seeming acidity and modest finish. There is a syrupy quality to the body that makes the wine feel a tad heavy. 33 grams per liter of residual sugar.

Bright lemon, nectarine and pineapple tones are touched with green herbs and savory pollen notes in this ephemerally sheer, light-bodied Riesling. Off dry on the palate, it boasts a mouth quenching grapefruit juiciness.
