Fruit/Other Wine
![]() |
Not all wines are made from grapes. Pretty much any plant matter — even dandelions — can be fermented, but most wines made from something other than grapes are made from fruits. Plums, pears, apples (cider), cherries and strawberries are the most common base ingredients. Fruit wines are typically created a bit differently than normal wines, because most fruits don't have the necessary balance of sugar, acids and tannins found in grapes. Other ingredients, such as sugar or honey, are often added to balance out the flavors. Honey is a subcategory of its own — mead, one of the world’s older alcoholic beverages, is made by fermenting honey and water. |
