Malbec is a full-bodied, fruit-filled, yet earthy dry red wine that has been produced in a few countries but has had the most success in Argentina. It is in Argentina’s climate with its warm, dry days and cool nights that Malbec absolutely shines as the rich, dark, velvety wine many have come to love. Its roots started in France where it is still allowed in Bordeaux (although it is rare), and originated in Cahors where the grape is called Auxerrois or Côt Noir locally.

Malbec is a complex wine that has tasting notes that often include blackberry, dark cherry, plum, olive, and sometimes (due to a heavy amount of oak) mocha, vanilla, pepper, tobacco and even leather.

Given Argentina’s strong association with cattle, it’s no wonder that Malbec is often paired with beef. But it doesn’t stop there, because the intense dark fruit and smoky spice flavors also make this an ideal pairing for BBQ, Stews, Sausage, mushroom dishes and chili.
