Critical Acclaim

SP91 Wine Spectator Apr 30, 2015

"Sleek and zesty, this wine balances polish with a briary personality. Floral raspberry and spice box aromas combine with lively flavors of dried cherry, smoky sage and pepper, with the tannins easing in on the finish. Zinfandel, Mourvèdre, Carignane, Alicante Bouschet and Palomino. Drink now through 2022. 750 cases made." (91 pts.)

RP89 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Dec 2014

"From the sandy soils of a Contra Costa vineyard planted in the 1890s, the 2013 Proprietary Red Evangelho Heritage is composed of 60% Zinfandel, 18% Carignane and the rest Mourvèdre, Palomino and Mission. It exhibits dusty, loamy soil undertones intermixed with underbrush, ripe berry fruit, pepper, earth and spicy notes. This interesting, terroir-driven, medium to full-bodied wine shows good fruit as well as a touch of rusticity. Drink it over the next 4–5 years." (89 pts.)

VN93 Vinous Jan 2015

"The 2013 Evangelho Heritage Wine is a real stunner. Silky, suave and nuanced on the palate, the 2013 impresses for its balance and total sense of class. Sweet red berries, flowers, spices and mint are all given an extra dimension of aromatic lift from the significant presence of sand found in this Contra Costa site. The acidity is especially bright in 2013, adding to the wine’s energy. Carignane, Zinfandel and Mourvedre form the core of the blend." (93 pts.)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
