Domaine La Tuiliere  2009  Cotes du Ventoux  is a simple yet elegant wine to enjoy for Father’s Day.  This classic Rhone style red comes from the southeastern part of France where Mont Ventoux looks over both the Rhone valley and Provence to the south and east.  On the western side is where the vineyards of the Cotes du Ventoux appellation exist.

The wines made under the Cotes du Ventoux appellation are very similar to those of the Cotes du Rhones title and use nearly the same combination of grape varieties. In fact, this Cotes du Ventoux is made up of 80 % Grenache and 20% Syrah. This wine is medium-bodied and ideal for drinking now having aged a few years. Being from 2009, it has had time to build up more complexity and character than when it was tasted as a new wine. Notes of black cherry, dark plum, chocolate, and a hint of spice and leather, lead to ample, but not overwhelming tannins.  The finish is very satisfying. Considering the warm weather this weekend, consider putting this red in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes to chill it down slightly.
