You’re having a casual lawn party this weekend and several of your guests will be expecting a fairly dry, easy drinking white. You could opt for the usual suspects – Pinot Grigio, un-oaked Chardonnay, dry Riesling or a Sauvignon Blanc but predictability and cost may be an issue. Therefore, go green (green as in Verdi, that is).
Vinho Verdi in some circles is practically a rite of summer. The Este Vinho Verdi 2014 is made from Loureiro (85%), Trajadura(7.5%) and Arinto(7.5%). These three grapes most of us may not be familiar with but the results of their blending will make this wine memorable. This wine is fresh and lively, somewhat fizzy and refreshing as hell. It is also low in alcohol and is clean, tart, floral and with meyer lemon notes. Vinho Verde is a great aperitif and can also be enjoyed with leafy green salads, fish, shellfish or cold courses. It can even tackle asparagus which is not an easy task.
So whether you are entertaining the queen at Windsor Castle or having a backyard weenie roast with Homer Simpson, this wine is perfect for summer sipping.
Right now the Este Vinho Verdi is on our Double Up for a Buck sale for $5.00 a bottle.
