Critical Acclaim

SP94 Wine Spectator Oct 31, 2014

"Dense but refined, showing layers of fig, boysenberry and blackberry paste offset with notes of anise, fruitcake, allspice, mulled plum and black tea. Exhibits a silky feel through the finish, with lots of sneaky length as an iron accent lingers gracefully. Best from 2015 through 2030. 390 cases imported." (94 pts.)

RP94 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 30th Oct 2014

"The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin, which I was able to taste (and drink) from multiple bottles, is a beautiful Grenache that comes from the cooler, northeastern edge of the appellation. Coming almost all from the Chapouin lieu-dit (it gets a small bit from La Janasse), it gives up the classic notes of black berries, spring flowers, violets, and licorice that I always seem to find in this cuvee. Building nicely on the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, has tons of sweet fruit and solid, if not firm, tannin that come out on the finish. It will be better in another couple of years and have 15+ years of overall longevity." (94 pts.)

RP94+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 30th Oct 2013

"Also showing the purity and freshness of the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin, which was harvested towards the end of September, displays classic licorice, crushed violets, flowers and mineral-tinged black fruits to go with a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced and lively feel on the palate. Always 100% Grenache that comes from very old vines and sandy soils, it is one impressive tank sample. Give it a couple years in the cellar and enjoy bottles over the following decade or longer. Drink 2015–2027." (94–96 pts.)

ST92+ Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar Jan/Feb 2014

"Deep ruby. Dark berries, incense, candied flowers and minerals on the highly perfumed nose. Offers sweet black raspberry and lavender flavors that become spicier with aeration. Fine-grained and sappy, with excellent finishing clarity and smooth, harmonious tannins adding grip. This sexy Chateauneuf will likely be delicious soon after release, but it has the concentration to strongly suggest that patience will be rewarded." (92–94 pts.)

France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.
