Critical Acclaim

WE96 Wine Enthusiast 11/1/2021

"Centenary vines of Grenache are augmented by 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre in this swooning black cherry and clove scented red. It shares the same vitality of black fruit flavors as the “tradition” or standard-label bottling from Mayard but with a richness of concentration and texture that’s thrilling. Matured 18 months in foudre, its mulberry and preserved plum flavors are luscious, finishing with a dusting of char, basalt and delicate, lingering tannins. Ready now–2030." (96 pts.)

JD93 Jeb Dunnuck October 6, 2020

"The old vine cuvée of the estate, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Crau De Ma Mère is 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah, all from the La Crau lieu-dit that was raised all in old foudres. It sports a beautiful deep ruby color as well as an earthy, garrigue-like character followed by plenty of kirsch liqueur, ground pepper, and Provençal spices. With medium to full-bodied richness, it displays the softer, more subtle side of the vintage and has good concentration, ripe tannins, and a terrific sense of freshness as well as purity. This beautiful, classic Châteauneuf du Pape is ideal for drinking over the coming 10–12 years, if not longer." (93 pts.)

VN93 Vinous Oct 2021

"Dark ruby. Spice-accented red and blue fruits on the nose, along with suggestions of candied flowers, garrigue and allspice. Smooth and seamless in texture, offering juicy black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that slowly firm up through the back half. The floral note repeats strongly on a very long, subtly chewy finish featuring rounded tannins and lingering spiciness." (93 pts.)

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.
