Critical Acclaim
ST91Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar May/Jun 2013
"Dark purple. Sappy, liqueur-like aromas of fresh cherry and raspberry. Intense and concentrated but lively, with appealing sweetness to its sappy red fruit flavors. The raspberry notes lingers with excellent tenacity on the finish, which is lifted by zesty acidity and shows a touch of youthfully bitter tannins. Made from century-old vines, half head-trained and half trained on wires." (91 pts.)
When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).
The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2017 Supple and refined, with floral blueberry, mint and clove aromas and layered black raspberry and savory pepper flavors that take on complexity on the finish. Drink now through 2027. 788 cases made.VN91+91–94 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017 The 2015 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is silky nuanced and beautifully lifted in the glass. Striking inner perfume, expressive aromatics and dark shades of red-toned fruits abound. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 fleshes out a bit more in the glass.RP90+90–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016 The 2015 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is 88% Zinfandel and 12% mixed black varieties as well as a handful of white varieties such as Malvasia and Muscat. This is another killer wine, as it is always one of the top wines in his extensive and impressive portfolio. The alcohol is 15.3%, but that’s a minor component to this big, juicy, succulent, in-your-face, dramatic Zinfandel that boasts raspberry, black cherry, strawberry, licorice, tar, earth and roasted Provençal herbs. It is spicy and elegant, but at the same time, heady, rich and generously endowed. Drink it over the next 7–10 years.
