Critical Acclaim

RP90 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Jun 2016

"Roederer’s NV Brut Premier is a classic and blends about 40% Pinot Noir (from Bouzy and Ambonnay), with 20–25% Meunier (whose share is declining in this blend) and Chardonnay. Two-thirds of the grapes come from estate vineyards, one-third is purchased. (Mind you that all the other Roederer cuvées are sourced exclusively form their own vineyards!) The newest release of the Premier is based on 75% 2009 and 25% reserve wines, which are, since 1996, single vintage wines aged in large oak casks between 6,000 and 10,000 liters. Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon holds 160 vats of reserve wines that are stored blank, so without lees, which otherwise would dominate the taste, says Lécaillon. “I don’t like the reductive yeast flavors. Instead I am searching for a slightly oxidative and oaky style in my reserve wine.” Lécaillon’s youngest Premier did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine opens very bright, precise and refined, with toasty and white chocolate flavors. Absolutely delicate and elegant on the palate, this is a light, silky textured and remarkably finesse-full Champagne that is fresh on the palate, thanks to its structure and slightly oaky flavors. Excellent." (90 pts.)

WE90 Wine Enthusiast 12/1/2018

"Roederer’s nonvintage cuvée is ripe and bright. The acidity and clean white-fruit flavors show strongly, allied to a tangy texture. It is a little drier than previous bottlings, a product of the ripe fruit that needed less dosage. Drink now." (90 pts.)

WS90 Wine & Spirits December 1, 2012

"A plump, rich take on the Roederer style, this is the pretty blond Parisian who manages a smile when you pass by: a little pithy, a little smoky, a little tangy with the scent of candied roses. The wine’s sweetness and acidity balance each other out, leaving a clean impression. A great start to a dinner party." (90 pts.)

ST88 Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar Nov/Dec 2005

"Pale gold color. Fresh, floral notes of honeysuckle and rose petal, with complicating suggestions of beeswax and smoke. Round and nicely concentrated, showing baked apple, pear and subtle maple flavors. Rich and weighty on the finish, which picks up a ripe, exotic passion fruit quality." (88 pts.)

SP91 Wine Spectator Nov 15, 2018

"A bright and lacy Champagne, in an aperitif style, with citronella and smoke aromas to the rich flavors of crushed currant, lemon pastry cream and toast. Minerally finish. Drink now through 2021." (91 pts.)

Champagne

Bring on the bubbly! Perhaps no other wine region in the world has the name recognition of Champagne, to the point where people often mistakenly use the word "Champagne" to describe any sparkling wine. Yet only wines produced within the region can legally be called "Champagne," and to this day it produces some of the finest sparkling wines known to earth.

France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.
