Wine Grapes

Primary Grape: Cabernet Franc | All Grapes: Cabernet Franc

From the Producer

Reflecting the elegance of the vintage, this wine opens up straight out of the glass with a floral perfume and notes of cigar ash, leather, spice, cedar and an abundance of red and black cherries. Complex and layered, it is full- bodied and very well structured to sustain great potential for aging. The tannins are silky and velvety—accompanied by a great balance and freshness. The finish is long and will not stop on the palette. Incredibly concentrated yet elegant, it keeps you coming back for more.

Critical Acclaim

JD98 Jeb Dunnuck 9/30/2021

"Based on 100% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Cabernet Franc reveals a dense purple hue to go with a gorgeous, classic Cabernet Franc bouquet of ripe black fruits, chocolate, sappy spring flowers, and iron, with a distinct sense of minerality on both the nose and palate. Pure, focused, and beautifully balanced, with ultra-fine tannins and a thrilling finish, outside of a few wines in Napa and Washington, it’s the finest expression of Cabernet Franc from the New World. (Jeb Dunnuck)" (98 pts.)

VN96 Vinous Jul 2022

"Glass-staining ruby. Deep-pitched black and blue fruit and floral qualities on the nose, complemented by suggestions of vanilla, woodsmoke and succulent herbs. Chewy and youthfully taut on the palate, offering intense bitter cherry, black currant, licorice and espresso flavors that steadily become sweeter with aeration. Finishes impressively long and precise, with fine-grained tannins adding framework and final grip. Aged in new French oak barrels for 30 months. (Josh Raynolds)" (96 pts.)

RP97+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 15th Mar 2022

"The 2018 Cabernet Franc takes some time to unfold to dark cherries and chocolate with notes of fried herbs, violet and graphite. The full-bodied palate has loads of powdery tannins, bursts of fresh acidity, spicy fruits and alluring floral perfume that lingers on the finish. This was made entirely from free-run juice and was matured for 30 months in 100% new French oak. (Erin Brooks)" (97+ pts.)

RP94+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 30th Oct 2020

"Still in barrel, the 2018 Cabernet Franc takes time to open to floral perfume and notes of iron, cigar ash and cedar over a core of red and black cherry fruit. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and detailed, packed with nuanced, uplifted fruits and finishing long and perfumed. It’s always struck me that the real star at Daou is Cabernet Franc. This is expected to age a total of 30 months in 100% new French oak." (94–96 pts.)

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
