Côtes du Rhône

Côtes du Rhône | WineMadeEasy.com

Côtes du Rhône, a red that can go from backyard barbecue to black-tie dinner in a snap. Dependable, yet sophisticated. A few of these producers also make wines elsewhere that can cost hundreds of dollars, so it's a great way to get an introduction to some of the great estates in the Rhône Valley.

A 75-25 Grenache-Syrah blend, the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Villages Valreas Tendresse d’un Climat boasts big raspberry fruit, balanced by hints of orange zest and clove. It’s full-bodied, intense and concentrated, with supple tannins and a long, slightly warming finish. Drink it over the next few years.

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#53685

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
Saturated ruby. Ripe black raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of cracked pepper, allspice and pungent flowers. Supple, appealingly sweet red and blue fruit preserve flavors gain energy with air, and a bright mineral element adds back-end lift. Supple tannins add shape to a persistent, floral-accented finish, which leaves cherry and spice notes behind.
    RP89+89–91 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Dec 2019
The Guigals predict volumes of only 3.5 million bottles for the 2017 Cotes du Rhone, as good wine was harder to source than in 2016. It’s still bright and primary, with cherry fruit seeming a bit one-dimensional at this stage, although there’s a welcome hint of almond paste on the crisp finish.

    RP88+88–90 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Dec 2020
Plums, black cherries and hints of garrigue mark the nose of the 2019 Cotes du Rhone les 3 Soeurs, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. It’s medium to full-bodied, with soft masses of ripe tannin that impart a plush mouthfeel and linger easily on the finish. As always with this cuvée, I’d opt for drinking it on the young side.

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50155

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2018
The 2016 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu De Pere en Filles is a full-bodied, open-knit blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah. Hints of alfalfa appear on the nose, while the flavors trend more toward plummy black cherries. Rich and ripe yet easy to drink, it finishes with mouthwatering length.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53782

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Nov 2020
An oak-aged blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Villages Sainte Cecile Gabrielle boasts ample notes of bay leaf, thyme and sage on the nose, backed by ripe cherries and hints of mocha. It’s a medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured wine that drinks well now and should continue to do so for another 4–5 years.
