  1. Motor City Kitty Syrah

    Oldfield-Boushey Vineyard
    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#55214

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/15/2020
Coming from the Oldfield and Boushey Vineyards (basically the same vineyard), the 2017 Syrah Motor City Kitty Oldfield-Boushey Vineyard is slightly darker colored and, as with all the Rhones here, wasn’t destemmed and was brought up in mostly neutral puncheons. Blackberries, smoked earth, game, chocolate, and chalky minerality all emerge from this beauty, and it’s a powerful, full-bodied, concentrated effort that will evolve positively for 2–4 years and keep for a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  2. K Vintners The Beautiful Syrah

    Powerline Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56220

    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
The 2018 Syrah The Beautiful Powerline Vineyard comes from a vineyard outside of Walla Walla, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. It was not destemmed and was brought up in neutral, larger barrels. An exotic nose of ripe blue and black fruits, lavender, sappy flowers, and herbes de Provence-like nuances give way to a medium to full-bodied, richly textured, structured wine with a mouth-filling, layered, meaty style that builds nicely with time in the glass. There’s always a sappy, almost herbal edge to this beauty, and it ages beautifully. Feel free to open bottles any time over the coming 15–20 years. It would certainly be hard to pick out in a lineup of top Northern Rhône Syrahs. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022
A potent red, deeply structured yet dynamic, with blackberry, crushed stone, cured meat and black olive accents that gather richness and polish toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2032. 1,128 cases made.

The 2018 Syrah The Beautiful is clone 470 with a touch of Viognier co-fermented, aged in 30% new French oak puncheons before bottling. The Viognier brings beautiful honeysuckle tones alongside crème de violette and suggestions of baking spices. The salinity here is outstanding as blackberry compote, black tea and exotic spices mingle with the seamless texture and gorgeous length. Enjoy this outstanding bottling over the next eight-plus years.

  3. K Syrah The Deal

    Sundance Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56223

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
Currants, savory spices, dried flowers, charcoal, and loamy earth all emerge from the 2018 Syrah The Deal, which comes from the Sundance Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope. Showing plenty of more savory, earthy notes, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, expansive texture, and ripe, polished tannins. It shows the more elegant, streamlined style of the vintage, yet I love its balance. It’s going to benefit from 2–3 years of bottle age and keep for 10–12. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
Sourced from the Sundance vineyard, set on alluvial flood soils (volcanic sand), the 2018 Syrah The Deal was aged in 25% new oak puncheons for 20 months before bottling. The palate shows pretty red florals and a core of dark fruits, with shades of wet sand producing a lovely salty, mouthwatering effect.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56217

    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
Made entirely from Phelps clone Syrah, the 2018 Syrah Powerline was aged for 24 months in 35% new French oak prior to bottling. It has a very Côte-Rôtie bull’s-blood character alongside iodine and volcanic ash on the nose. The palate is plush with a seamless texture and wonderful length. A very pretty core of dark fruits mingles with shades of creosote, Earl Grey tea and suggestions of orange zest. The flavor and aromatic range here are outstanding, and this brilliant wine isn’t going anywhere for another 10 years.
    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
Another Syrah from this site in Walla Walla, the dense purple/ruby 2018 Syrah Powerline Vineyard offers up a classic nose of spiced red and black fruits, cured meats, peppery herbs, lavender, and truffle. This carries to a rich, medium to full-bodied Syrah with terrific tannins as well as balance. It already offers considerable pleasure yet is going to have a solid 10–15 years of longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022

    Upland Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56444

    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
Coming from a site on Snipes Mountain and all Syrah that wasn’t destemmed, the 2018 Syrah Cattle King Upland Vineyard boasts a medium ruby, almost opaque color as well as a gorgeous perfume of framboise, mulberries, flowery incense, lavender, and herbes de Provence. It shows plenty of bacon fat and meatiness with time in the glass and is medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. This complex, Burgundian-style Syrah is going to evolve of 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
The 2018 Syrah Cattle King is sourced from the Upland vineyard on Snipes Mountain, set on a steep slope of river rock. The wine was aged in 50% new French oak puncheons for 24 months before bottling. It delivers plenty of aromatic range, from rich dark fruits to stony undertones to nori and crème de violette. Northridge Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56222

    JD96+96+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
Kirsch, ripe black cherries, roasted herbs, violets, and orange blossom notes all emerge from the 2018 The Hidden Syrah Northridge Vineyard, which is all Syrah brought up in neutral oak. Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully polished, it packs loads of fruit yet stays light on its feet, with no sensation of heaviness. As with all of these Syrahs from Smith, it’s going to benefit from 2–4 years of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
An instant success, the 2018 Syrah The Hidden Northridge Vineyard is impressive and possesses layers of spiced red fruits, black raspberry and nuances of dusty floral tones that sway with precision and finesse. Medium to full-bodied, the wine offers gobs of complexity that overflow with almost immaculate accuracy before ending with a long-lingering and ever-evolving finish that persists for more than a minute. Bravo, I’m going back for another sip. (Anthony Mueller)
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
Sourced from the Northridge vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, set on limestone soils, the 2018 Syrah The Hidden saw 50% new French oak puncheons for 22 months prior to bottling. Wet stone and creosote tones combine with bright red fruits on the nose. The palate is fresh and viscous, with lovely tension that runs through a core of medium-bodied dark fruits, and salty and stony undertones. Gorgeous to consume now, this well-balanced wine has another 8-10 years ahead of it.
