Mullineux Old Vines White

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 61000

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022
The 2021 Old Vines White comes from vines up to 70-years old built around Chenin Blanc, 62% in this vintage, barrel fermented in 500-litre barrels and a couple of foudres. This has a lovely bouquet with dried honey, white flowers, honeysuckle and light grilled walnut aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, gorgeous texture with impressive tension on the finish. This is an outstanding Old Vine White that will age with style. (Neal Martin)
JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 9, 2022
Perfumed aromas of white peaches, lily and beeswax. Medium-bodied with oily texture. Rather supple with very good concentration. Mineral with an almost saline character. Pure, transparent and crystal clear. From vines that are up to 70 years old. 62% chenin blanc, 10% clairette blanche, 9% viognier, 7% grenache blanc, 6% verdelho and 6% semillon. Drink or hold.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2022
Composed of a blend of 62% Chenin Blanc, 10% Clairette Blanche, 9% Viognier, 7% Grenache Blanc, 6% Sémillon and 6% Verdelho, the 2021 Old Vine White is bright, fresh and focused with succulent stonefruit aromas that sway with a brilliant floral essence and sweet citrus tone. Medium to full-bodied, the mouthfeel is textural and refined with a delightful crunchy minerality and exuberance that displays power and finesse. There is a lovely flutter of oak spice across the long and subtly spiced finish. Just over 25,000 bottles were filled after resting for 11 months in third and fifth use French oak. (Anthony Mueller)

WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022
Melon pith, straw, honeysuckle and orange blossom tea all dance on the nose upon first whiff of this enticing wine. The palate is medium in weight, with ripe orange and orchard-fruit flavors that linger with good intensity through to the finish, structured by ample acidity for freshness and a lightly bitter framework for textural interest. The Chocolate Block

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 61182

JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, December 11, 2022
An inviting nose of pitted cherries, sliced plums, white pepper and tobacco leaf. Medium-bodied with silky tannins. Juicy and savory with nicely ripened red and black fruit. Subtle spice and cocoa undertones. 74% syrah, 10% grenache, 8% cinsault, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 1% viognier. Sustainable. Vegan. (James Suckling)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022
The 2021 The Chocolate Block had been bottled a month before my visit. The Grenache and Cinsault plus part of the Syrah comes from Boekenhoutskloof’s own vines and the remainder from purchased fruit. It undergoes whole berry fermentation and aged for 14 months in French barriques and two oak foudres. This has a much more refined and focused bouquet than the Chocolate Blocks of yore, brambly black fruit mixed with pencil lead and undergrowth. Impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins, well judged acidity, quite structured and sappy towards the finish. Fine length. (Neal Martin)

Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay

2022 / 750 ml.

Item #: 61196

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2023
The 2022 Chardonnay is matured nine months in 300-liter French oak barrels, 24% new. It has a backward nose demanding just a little coaxing from the glass, revealing tempting lemon thyme, hazelnut and subtly smoky aromas. The palate is taut and fresh with a lovely, slightly waxy texture. The oak is nicely integrated, quite linear and tensile in style, with ample weight toward the poised finish. This is a classy Chardonnay from Hamilton Russell. 13.3% alcohol. (Neal Martin)
