  2. Cakebread Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#54475

    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
Ripe plums and blackberries with some coca-nib, vanilla, bread-crust and smoke notes. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, deep fruit and bright acidity. Tight and reserved, yet juicy, with a long finish. Approachable now, but better in 2022.
    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 88.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.2% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 1.1% Syrah, .5% Malbec, .5% Cabernet Franc and .5% Petite Sirah. Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers up vivacious scents of warm cassis, juicy blueberries and Black Forest cake with hints of dried herbs and tilled earth. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves flavors with a soft, approachable texture and plenty of freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.

    JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
Vibrantly youthful with plenty of nectarine fruit and a touch of strawberry, this is both juicy and refreshing. Surprisingly long and harmonious finish. Drink now. Screw cap.

Brisk aromas of crushed stone and crushed strawberry blend with a hint of thyme on the nose. It’s light and juicy on the palate, with perky red berry flavors matched by gentle peppery herb accents. It ends fruity and lifted, with a delicate touch of fuzzy tannins.

  4. Marqués de Cáceres Rueda Verdejo

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#57435

    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 08/21
Cristina Forner at Cáceres has been branching out from Rioja, and this may be one of her most successful new wines. In 2014, she invested in 300 acres of vines on terraces above the Duero River; the vines, mostly verdejo and mostly on gravelly sand, surround the winery built at the vineyard. Eso es Rueda, I wrote, when I tasted this wine. Its dynamic contrast of rich and fresh, its brisk flavors of apples and turmeric, its leesy depths and lasting refreshment all set the bar for affordable pleasure in verdejo. Chill it for shellfish, particularly grilled oysters with spicy garlic butter.

Pale yellow. A pungent bouquet displays mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruits, along with strong floral and fresh bay accents. Juicy and chewy in texture, offering energetic Anjou pear, orange pith and tarragon flavors underscored by a vein of smoky minerality. Powerful yet lithe, finishing with sharp clarity and good, mineral-driven persistence.

Full ruby-red. Pungent, spice-tinged red and blue fruits, succulent herbs and flowers on the nose, along with a hint of earthiness. Gently chewy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors that slowly unfurl through the back half. Finishes long and spicy, with a touch of smokiness and slowly building tannins. 15% new French oak.
