Critical Acclaim

JD93 Jeb Dunnuck 7/22/2021

"Readers who like classic, impeccably made, authentic California Chardonnay should jump on the 2018 Chardonnay Russian River Valley as it doesn’t shy away from its California fruit yet is balanced, fresh, and lengthy. Stone fruits, honeyed toast, baking spice, and hints of tropical flowers emerge from the glass, and this medium-bodied, textured 2018 will drink well for at least 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)" (93 pts.)

WE95 Wine Enthusiast 7/1/2021

"An incredible showcase for the appellation, this combines grapes from the producer’s estate Westside Farms with Dutton, Woolsey Road and Rochioli Allen, among others. Together it is broadly floral, earthy and richly integrated, with depth and complexity, the acidity vibrantly fresh." (95 pts.)

RP93 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 3rd Jun 2021

"The 2018 Chardonnay Russian River Valley has aromas of citrus peel, quince and almonds with a unique, super-spicy undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate offers intense, ripe fruits in a seamless, silky package, and it finishes long and lush. 13,340 cases produced." (93 pts.)

WS94 Wine & Spirits 10/21

"David Ramey blends this wine from a selection of five sites planted from 1978 to 2006 — the biggest contribution from Westside Farms. He ferments the wine spontaneously in François Frères and Taransaud barrels (15 percent new) and the integration of that oak is impressive, allowing the wine’s coastal freshness to provide the dominant impression. Scents of honeysuckle and ginger brighten the wine, while the leesiness adds complexity, with an iodine note and a lasting, intriguing tension." (94 pts.)

VN92 Vinous Jan 2021

"The 2018 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) is another stellar wine in this range. It offers up an exotic mélange of apricot, matchstick, butter and spice, all in a juicy style that captures the essence of the Russian River Valley. The 2018 is quite forward, yet it has plenty of energy and persistence too." (92 pts.)

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
