VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2019 Glimmering red. Spice-accented red fruit and rose oil on the nose, along with notes of white pepper, allspice and musky earth. Juicy and focused in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and red berry flavors with a touch of medicinal bitterness. Turns sweeter with air and shows very good energy on the persistent finish, which is firmed by dusty, fine-grained tannins that fold smoothly into the wine’s fruit.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. They're made by a top producer and comparable to wines at twice the cost.
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, August 2, 2018 Very ripe and slightly raw oak over black fruit and coconut candy. The palate has dense, chewy fruit and really assertive tannins. Needs a year or two to settle in.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 This medium-bodied, barrel-fermented wine offers light, toasted oak aromas, attractive baked apple flavors and accents of butter and vanilla. Good balance keeps it going sip after sip, revealing spice and almond nuances.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2007 A delicate, well-balanced Prosecco, showing a good blend of baked apple, sour lemon and grapefruit, with a lightly creamy mineral texture on the palate. Medium froth, with some body and a pleasant lemon and mineral finish. Drink now.BD8989 pts. - Beverage Dynamics - May/Jun 2011 Fresh citrus with hints of honey and white flowers on the nose; soft, light and delicate; delicious.WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2013 Scents of dried grasses and sweet apples carry through this Prosecco. It lasts on nutty flavors, pleasantly balanced for sipping on the beach.WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2012 Widely available, this easy Prosecco offers fresh aromas of citrus, stone fruit and honey. It’s elegantly packaged with a light blue label that would look gorgeous at a lunchtime table set by the pool.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021 Vibrant, juicy and wonderfully intense, showing off fleshy notes of passion fruit, mango and citrus, with mouthwatering acidity and a touch of saline and lemongrass on the finish. Drink now. 15,000 cases made, 12,000 cases imported.
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2021 The 2019 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is terrific. Bold, juicy and wonderfully expressive, the 2019 will drink well right out of the gate. Juicy black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and chocolate are all kicked up a few notches. In 2019 Le Volte is especially dark and sumptuous, both of which add to its considerable immediacy and overall appeal. This is an especially fine vintage for the Ornellaia’s entry-level bottling.RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th May 2021 The entry-level 2019 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is mostly Merlot that is blended with Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. As the text on the back label suggests, the wine aims for a so-called Mediterranean flavor profile that presents the cherry softness of the Merlot against the spice of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the bramble or blue flowers of the Sangiovese. This wine also shows a specifically Italian side, thanks to that food-friendly freshness. I’m thinking pasta with a hearty meat ragù. This vintage is thinner and shorter than I would like to see, but the results are versatile and accessible nonetheless.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021 Strikes a terrific balance between mouthwatering acidity, fresh herbal notes of lemon verbena and thyme, and core flavors of Key lime, Meyer lemon, pineapple and tangerine. Gains momentum on the finish, where the flavors sing in harmony and complexity. Drink now. 100,000 cases made, 45,000 cases imported.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 Opaque ruby. Deep-pitched scents of ripe black/blue fruits, vanilla and succulent herbs. Plush and open-knit, offering smoke-tinged blackberry cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate flavors complemented by spicy oak tones. Fruit-driven and approachable, finishing with rounded tannins and a touch of cracked pepper.WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2021 Blackberry, loamy soil, incense and roasted meat aromas show on the nose of this bottling. It lands on the palate with clean red fruit and sharp acidity, as waves of pine and smoke ride slightly chunky tannins into the finish.
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/22/2021 All Chardonnay brought up in used demi-muids, the 2019 La Colline Aux Fossiles sports a medium gold hue to go with terrific stone fruits, caramelized citrus, white flowers, and honeysuckle-like aroma and flavors as well as a beautiful sense of minerality that emerges with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured, with a layered mouthfeel and a great finish, it’s another knockout Chardonnay from the team of Eric Solomon and Jean-Marc Lafage.
Vieilles Vignes de Grenache 2019 / 750 ml. | Item#55551
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/22/2021 All Grenache brought up in demi–muids and aged on lees for 8 months, the medium ruby/purple hued color of the 2019 Cuvée Nicolas is followed by a killer bouquet of kirsch liqueur, savory spices, cured meats, and peppery garrigue. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and gorgeously textured, it has wonderful richness with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It’s another insane value from this team.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2020 A ripe and spicy wine, this shows rich tannins and a solid texture. Juicy blackberry-jelly flavors lighten the load of richness and shed an attractive light on the wine’s fruitiness. Drink from 2021.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021 The 2018 Al Passo is another appealing wine in the Tolaini range. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon work well together in this blend. Bright and punchy, the 2018 bristles with energy from start to finish. Ripe red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, spice, mint and blood orange build effortlessly.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021 Aromas of shaved cocoa and red cherry jam meet with a bit of smoke on the nose of this widely available yet reliable bottling. There is ample tension on the sip, giving the big-boned flavors of black cherry, incense and smoke the tannic edges to cling to.WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21 Despite a generous rasher of cocoa nibs and chocolate from the oak, there’s a cool savor to the flavors beneath, of olive and black fig and eucalyptus, with a texture that’s polished, even fleshy. It’s a lot of wine for the price.
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 22, 2021 Based on 74% Syrah and 26% Grenache brought up in in a combination of concrete tanks (for the Grenache) and one year old demi-muids (for the Syrah), the 2018 Cotes Du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a knockout bottle of wine. It offers loads of black fruits, roasted herbs, peppered meat, violets, and bacon fat as well as full-bodied richness, a round, opulent style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster finish. It’s one of the finest values out there.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. RP90+90–92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Apr 2019 The 2018 Marjosse is made up of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc with a splash of old Malbec. Big old barrels were used for 25% of the crop. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with a compelling nose of baking spices, raspberry pie, warm red and black currants, rose hip tea and fragrant earth with a waft of wild sage. Medium-bodied, the palate is filled with fragrant red and black fruit, framed by great freshness and soft, supple tannins, finishing on a floral note.VN90+90–92 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2019 The 2018 Marjosse offers lovely black currant and raspberry aromas, fresh and vibrant in the glass; plum jam and black olive notes emerge with time. The palate is underpinned by fine tannins, good substance and a crisp, cedar-tinged finish that is a pure joy. A must-buy from Pierre Lurton’s home estate.
