Shop the Best German Wines

German white wine in today’s market is primarily Riesling. Riesling is held by many to be the most noble of white wine grapes, and because of Germany’s cooler climate and soil composition, the grape thrives there to make wines of high quality.

German white wine of fine quality is also produced from Müller-Thurgau, Sylvaner and Gewürtztraminer grapes just to name a few. Red varietals are not completely abandoned as Germany produces a small quantity of Pinot Noir, which are labeled Spätburgunder.

Where are the best German wines produced? Outstanding German Riesling and the majority of German wines are produced in the Mosel, Rheingau, Rheinhessen, Nahe and Pfalz regions. These regions are located in west and southwestern corner of Germany, along the valleys of the Rhine River and its tributaries.

  10. Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Elisenberger Riesling Kabinett

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#50312

    RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2019
The 2018 Elisenberger Riesling Kabinett is dense, cool, very precise and flinty-mineral on the nose, which is still reductive but exciting. Coming from a coolish side valley that was picked at roughly 84° to 85° Oechsle at the end of September, this is a gorgeously lush and mouth-filling Riesling with the mineral piquancy of quartzite soils. There is no aggressive acidity here, there is nice tartaric acidity that makes this a seductive Kabinett you can’t resist. This is a fabulous, very long and enchanting Riesling. The wine has slightly more than 50 grams of residual sugar and comes in at 8.5% alcohol. It was scheduled to be bottled a couple of days after I tasted it from the cask at the end of March 2019.

  11. Georg Breuer Sauvage Riesling

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53709

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2020
The 2018 Riesling GB Sauvage is based on Rüdesheim and Rauenthal fruits plus wines from Hallgarten and Oestrich. The wine opens coolish, clear and fresh, with lemon, flint and quartzite-soil aromas. Stunning and fascinating, pure and expressive for this price level. On the palate, this is a straight, piquant and linear, precise, filigreed and bone-dry Rheingau Riesling classic. Great precision, grip and stimulating finish. This should be a great Riesling with fish. Did I ever taste a better Sauvage? Tasted in August 2019.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2021
Ripe pear and apple are garlanded in lily-of-the-valley on a fetching nose and a silken-textured, buoyant palate. The refreshing finish delivers invigorating crunch and tang of apple and pear skin and is brilliantly transparent to stony, alkaline and saline nuances. A superb demonstration of what’s possible even from notoriously heat-trapping and drought-prone sites in a dry, warm vintage: a wine lively but full of fruit, harboring a mere two grams of residual sugar yet billowingly buoyant at only 11.5% alcohol!

  12. Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#54720

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020
The 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett is very clear, precise and intense on the refined but complex, deep and concentrated nose. Sourced from 70- to 80-year-old vines in the original Himmelreich (“Im Himmelreich”), this is a dense, complex and structured Kabinett with mouth-filling fruit and a long, complex, very mineral and expressive finish. This is a great Kabinett — one of the best you can find in the Mosel (or elsewhere) — and this will be even more true in 20, 30 or even 40 years. Terroir matters, and the old vines in a first-class terroir matter even more. This is another must-buy. 9% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
