Bedrock Nervo Ranch Heritage 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 55455

A powerful, explosive wine, the 2019 Nervo Heritage Wine possesses tremendous energy right out of the gate. Crushed flowers, mint and spice lend striking aromatic nuance. The tannins are a big edgy at the moment, but time in bottle should take care of that. I imagine the 2019 will be positively stellar with a bit of bottle age.

The 2019 Nervo Ranch Heritage is an Alexander Valley release, and the vines here were planted in the late 1890s on a 30-degree slope of shale just outside the town of Geyserville. Lots of spice, herbes de Provence, mulled cherries, and licorice notes all emerge from this beauty, and it’s medium-bodied, with a lively, elegant texture, present tannins, and a good finish. When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

All barrel fermented, the medium straw-colored 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Valley is soft with tropical aromas as well as fresh herbs, mango skin, fresh peach, and wet stone. A medium bodied white, it boasts rounded fruit, a soft, stony texture, and fresh acidity without any harshness. A very attractive wine, it shows what great Sonoma Sauvignon can be all about. Drink 2023–2028. (Audrey Frick)

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc (Sonoma Valley) is a very pretty, nuanced white. It offers a striking combination of energy and mid-palate texture. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint, white pepper and a discreet touch of oak all grace this classy, understated Sauvignon Blanc. The blend of vineyard sources—Uboldi, Judge and Bedrock—works so well here. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2020 Old Hill Heritage Wine shows why this site is considered one of the very best in all of Sonoma. The pedigree is evident. A wine of volume, textural depth and intensity, the 2020 is a showstopper. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice and dark spice lend tons of complexity to this statuesque Zinfandel-based field blend. All the elements come together so beautifully. It’s hard to fully capture the Old Hill with words, as it really transcends descriptors. But when you taste it, you know. You know you are tasting a wine from a very special place.

The 2018 Lorenzo’s Heritage Wine emerges from a block in Teldeschi, one of the most highly regarded sites in Dry Creek and Sonoma more broadly. Inky dark fruit, rose petal, mint and lavender are given an extra kick of energy by veins of bright acidity. Sumptuous and vibrant. the Lorenzo’s is positively stunning from the very first taste.

Bold aromas of rose petal and orange blossom open to dynamic blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper flavors, building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 750 cases made.

The 2019 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a tough wine to read today. It is quite tannic and closed, but also does not appear to be quite as powerful or heavy as it can be, which in my view is a positive. Size and weight come so naturally at Bedrock that the wines can at times be a little too much of a good thing. I hope to have a chance to taste the 2019 again in the future, as it is in no mood to show its cards today. (Antonio Galloni)

Coming from a site that was originally planted in the 1850s (the vines for this release date back to the 1890s), the 2019 The Bedrock Heritage offers a medium ruby/plum color as well as a beautifully complex nose of cherries, red plums, lavender, herbes de Provence, and pepper. Quite structured and tannic, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful, complex, elegant wine that needs 2–3 years of bottle age and should have 10–12 years of prime drinking. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2021 Pagani Ranch is a beautiful, expressive wine from one of Sonoma Valley’s great sites. Rich, pliant and explosive, the 2021 possesses captivating inner perfume, vivid fruit and exceptional balance. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice, mocha and a kiss of new oak all race across the palate. An alluring, captivating wine, the Pagani Ranch is total sensuality. As good as the 2021 is—and it is very good—it could have been legendary. That is especially evident when looking at wines from Bedrock and Old Hill, two of the other grand crus of this stretch of vineyards in Sonoma Valley. Unfortunately, this is the last Pagani Ranch for Bedrock. (Antonio Galloni)

Bedrock’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso, from one of the truly iconic vineyards in the United States, is fascinating to taste next to the Montecillo, as they are both hillside Cabernets. The Monte Rosso offers up a whole range of lifted, savory aromatics to play off its bright fruit. Blood orange, cinnamon, dried herbs and spice lend so much complexity and nuance. The 2018 is going to be a fascinating wine to follow. (Antonio Galloni)

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2021 Cuvée Karatas is another fabulous white from Bedrock. This is the first year that includes Semillon from a Monte Rosso selection planted at Bedrock (68%) with Sauvignon Blanc from Judge and Uboldi (32%). If that sounds like a pretty appealing combination, well, it is. Rich, layered and light on its feet, the 2021 is dazzling. It’s one of the very best whites I have ever tasted from Bedrock. World class all the way. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2021 Cuvee Karatas White Wine is 60% Semillon and the rest Sauvignon Blanc and leads with elegant and soft tropical aromas of guava, lemon oil, and jasmine green tea. Medium-bodied, with a soft, supple texture and a clean feel, it offers fresh citrus notes of white grapefruit, chive, and chalky earth. Drink 2023–2030. (Audrey Frick)

The 2020 Evangelho Heritage Wine is rich, boisterous and super-expressive. Succulent black cherry, plum, licorice, spice and mocha are front and center. There’s real weight and density here, yet all the elements are so well balanced. The 2020 is dense and full of character. This year’s blend is mostly Zinfandel and Mataro.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2022
A Zinfandel with zest and snap, this delivers rich and briary notes of black cherry, orange peel and a touch of mint as this finishes with lively, ripe tannins. Zinfandel, Mataro and Carignan. Drink now through 2030. 500 cases made. (Tim Fish)
