Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 / 750 ml.

Item#: 40879

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2014
Bryant’s flagship wine, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill offers a rare but magnificent forest floor/floral aromatic profile with lavishly rich, ripe notes of crème de cassis, blueberry and black raspberry liqueur. Fleshy, opulent, full-bodied and multidimensional, it conceals some significant tannins behind its wealth of extract and fruit. From a first-growth quality, hillside vineyard (13 acres), this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeously pure as well as impeccably well-balanced with a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, alcohol and wood. In fact, the new oak component, which is significant, is largely obliterated by the wine’s stunning fruit. This majestic Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for 25–30 years.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2014
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is silky, layered and very polished throughout. Red cherry, spice cake, crushed flowers and mint are laced together in a gracious, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of orange peel and cinnamon add an exotic flair as the wine opens up. Bryant’s 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite pretty, but it should really be more than that. It should be viscerally thrilling in the way the best vintages are.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2015
Rustic and pleasantly chewy, this offers a rich, extracted core of dusty currant and blackberry flavors, ending with a stream of gravel, anise, tar and cedar notes. Drink now through 2028. 1,000 cases made.

Dana’s 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard possesses remarkable structure and density, especially within the context of the year. Firm yet well-integrated tannins give the wine much of its energy, tension and focus. Black cherry jam, graphite, smoke and tobacco add nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. Far from an easygoing 2012, the Helms is going to need time to fully come together. There is so much to look forward to here. This is the first vintage since 2008 that was vinified in wood uprights, as was originally intended. The intervening vintages have been much shorter, so they were done in barrel. The 2012 impresses for its balance of fruit, acidity and tannin.
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rutherford AVA, has a dense black cherry and blackcurrant-scented nose with graphite and forest floor notes, beautiful purity, full-bodied mouthfeel and super-richness and power, but elegant and complex. This is classic Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon and should age beautifully for 20–25 years.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2015
Dense and pleasantly earthy, with an edge of loamy earth and crushed rock minerality cutting through the core of currant, blackberry and mocha before the dense, earthy tannins fold in. The finish is long and engaging. Drink now through 2030. 284 cases made.

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from clone 4 on rootstock 3309, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Unnamed tastes like a young Pontet Canet. Its dense purple color is followed by a classic bouquet of creme de cassis, cedarwood, spring flowers and a hint of white chocolate. Full-bodied with stunning fruit intensity and purity as well as a long finish, this was all accessed from the Missouri Hopper vineyard owned by the Beckstoffer Family. Like most 2012s, this wine will be drinkable young, but it has the depth and balance to age for 20 years.

RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2013
There are 600 cases of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard LPV. The best example I have seen of Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard to date, it offers lots of flowery, blueberry and blackberry fruit interwoven with notions of lead pencil shavings, loamy soil, unsmoked cigar tobacco, incense and forest floor. This tremendously complex, intense, full-bodied 2012 flirts with perfection as many of Schrader’s amazing wines do. Bravo!
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2015
Starts out bold and assertive, with rich dark berry, cedar and nutmeg flavors, revealing touches of espresso, mocha and melted black licorice. Well-built, tight and persistent, this will benefit from short-term cellaring. Best from 2017 through 2029. 620 cases made.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard LPV is black/ruby, shows lots of charcoal, scorched earth and an almost Graves-on-steroids personality. Deep blueberry and blackberry fruit, a hint of coffee and chocolate are all present in this impressive, very different style of Cabernet Sauvignon from Schrader. This is Clone 337, planted in a St. Helena vineyard.

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Aug 2015
Probably the longest-lived wine in the vintage from Santa Barbara, Jonata’s 630-case 2012 El Desafio de Jonata checks in as a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot that saw 80% new French oak. It reveals a masculine, meaty, structured personality as well as rockin’ notes of blackcurrants, wood smoke, lead pencil shavings and crushed rock. Full-bodied, balanced and with building tannic grip, it still shows the suppleness of the vintage, but needs 2–3 years to even start to be drinkable. It will have 2–3 decades of longevity.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2015
The Cabernet Sauvignon-based 2012 El Desafio de Jonata graces the palate with its sensual personality. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, leather, smoke, spice and tobacco all blossom in the glass. Big, rich and inviting, the 2012 boasts superb intensity and resonance, although it doesn’t quite have the visceral thrill of the very best wines in this range. Shades of rose petal and mint add the closing shades of nuance. The 2012 was aged in French oak, 80% new.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pony Express is made from Clone 337 (95%) and 5% Cabernet Franc. This 200-case cuvée spends time in 50% Darnajou and 50% Taransaud barrels. A sensational Cabernet, it possesses abundant notes of spring flowers, new saddle leather, licorice, baking spices, blackberries and cassis. Full-bodied with a terrific, voluptuous texture and an opulent personality, this is fabulous and will provide sumptuous drinking over the next 15 or more years.

Château Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 49125

RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2018
The 2016 Haut-Brion is blended of 56% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is at once profound and arresting, offering drop-dead gorgeous Morello cherries, lilacs and red rose scents with a core of Black Forest cake, warm blackcurrants and blueberry preserves plus wafts of sandalwood and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the elegantly crafted palate is completely packed with intense floral, mineral and cassis-laced flavors with a firm frame of very finely pixelated tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and achingly stunning.
VN100100 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 Haut-Brion is quite possibly even more magnificent from bottle than it was from barrel. Powerful and rich, yet not at all heavy, the 2016 is a wine of nearly indescribable beauty. Haut-Brion is often a thrilling wine, but it is rarely this finessed in its youth. Gravel, cure meat, tobacco and cedar are some of the many nuances that develop with air, but it is an extraordinary sense of harmony that really stands out. What a wine!
JS100?100–100 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 4, 2017
This is a monument for Haut-Brion and reminds me of the great 1998 but in a modern and bright style. Full-bodied, very tannic and superbly structured yet always agile and vivid. Its energy and dynamic nature grabs you by the shoulder and tells you it’s great. Staggeringly precise. It can’t get better than this, can it?
WE100100 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2019
Immensely tannic, this is a great Haut-Brion, one of the finest for many years. It shows the severe side of this estate, with a dense structure to match the powerful black fruits. Rich with berry flavors and lifted by enough acidity, the wine will age for many years. Drink from 2026.
VN9999 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 Haut-Brion has a beguiling sense of purity on the nose, which features scents of blackberry, crushed violet petals, hints of dark chocolate and even a suggestion of fresh fig. Underneath all this is a seam of mineralité that becomes more conspicuous with aeration, tightening everything up. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannin, a satiny texture, perfect acidity and incredible harmony. Everything here is in the right place. Quite sensual in style, conveying an enthralling sense of delineation on the long finish. About as good as you will find in this vintage.

The softer, lighter 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill reveals no hint of herbaceousness. It offers lots of red and black currants intertwined with hints of blueberry liquor, fewer floral notes, and attractive, medium-bodied, juicy fruit that provides allure as well as opulence. Enjoy it over the next 10–12 years.
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2014
Creamy textured from the start and gracefully built, with a subtle mix of mocha, black cherry, anise, cedar, dill and espresso notes, fanning out on the finish and ending with firm, fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2022. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 619 cases made.

RP9999 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2013
Teasing the taster with a possible three-digit perfection is the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill. This beauty shows lots of creme de cassis, blueberry liqueur, spring flower and forest floor notes in an opulent, full-bodied, powerful, dense, rich style buttressed by significant ripe tannins and decent acidity. Again, the striking purity and singular character of this Bryant Cabernet Sauvignon oozes potential as well as pedigree. This spectacular, young Cabernet should turn out to be one of the all-time great Bryant Cabernet Sauvignons, rivaling their 1997, but slightly more structured. Forget this one for 3–4 years and drink it over the following three decades.
RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 26th Dec 2012
Smoke, tar, incense and licorice are some of the many notes that emerge from the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an especially dark, brooding vintage for Bryant. Cassis, pencil shavings and melted road tar emerge later, adding further complexity and nuance. Unlike the 2009, there is little in the way of early appeal. On the other hand, I see the 2010 drinking beautifully for many, many years. There is an underlying vein of minerality that gives the 2010 a sense of energy and focus. Anticipated maturity: 2018–2030.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - May 2017
Bright red-ruby. A captivating cool aspect to the aromas of black raspberry, licorice and graphite. Classic youthfully dense, savory wine in a rather Old World style, showing a beautifully refined texture and a distinctly briney minerality to its flavors of blackcurrant, black cherry and chocolate. Clearly less viscous in texture than the 2009 but as strong in extract. The wine’s huge but thoroughly ripe tannins shut down the chewy, savory, very long finish in the early going. This beauty should unfold spectacularly over the next 20 years.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2013
Seductive oak has a smooth vanilla bean edge, leading to a rich yet elegant core of spicy berry, mineral, mocha, gravelly earth and road tar. Most impressive on the finish, where the flavors retain their graceful balance and end with a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2025.

SP95+95–100 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2006
An amazing barrel sample. Rich and plush, with a concentrated mix of ripe plum, blackberry and wild berry flavors that are tightly focused and persistent, with a long, detailed finish. Caressing texture.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - May 2017
Bright, full red-ruby. Delightfully floral and cool on the nose following the 2004, offering good mineral lift to the aromas of red berries, licorice and rose petal. Clearly tighter than the ’04, in a much more classic style but still youthfully imploded, showing a subtle salinity to its redcurrant and raspberry flavors. There’s compelling sweetness here but a less glyceral texture than some of the richest vintages. Boasts outstanding structure for long-term aging, though, finishing very young, savory and long, with firm tannic spine and hints of hoisin sauce and spices.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2008
Elegant and stylish, with ripe, vivid black cherry, currant, wild berry and black olive flavors that gain depth and vibrancy, picking up body and complexity and ending with a long, lingering finish that keeps repeating the fruit and cedary oak themes. Best from 2011 through 2017.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2015
Certainly a somewhat mythical estate, planted by Helen Turley and John Wetlaufer and owned by Don Bryant of St. Louis, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is an outstanding wine, but not in the league of some of their classics that have been produced. For example, the 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2007, 2010 and more recent vintages, 2012 and 2013 are all superior to this 2005. Somewhat loosely knit for Bryant, this wine has relatively lofty alcohol and seems to be close to full maturity. ) Lots of blackberry and cassis fruit as well as a touch of kirsch are present in this soft, full-bodied, sexy wine, which still has a rather inky garnet/purple color. It doesn’t have the complexity of the greatest vintages of Bryant, but it’s delicious, and certainly on its own merits, worthy of any serious connoisseurs attention. Drink it now and over the next 12–15 years.
RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Dec 2007
The 2005 continues to exhibit a European-styled finesse, elegance, and a certain austerity. The wine also shows considerable new oak, lots of acidity, which is almost atypical for this vineyard site, and a deep ruby/purple color with notes of cedar, bay leaf, cigar box, and copious quantities of black currant liqueur. It is a streamlined, classic, but slightly austere style for Bryant. Anticipated maturity: 2010–2025.
