Chateau Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 60248

VN99+99+ pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The 2019 Haut-Brion has an ethereal degree of transparency on the nose, perhaps the most delineated of all the 2019s, fabulous precision and detail considering the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with fine bone tannins, unerring symmetry and poise. Cohesive from start to finish with an extraordinarily persistent and compelling closing. Off the charts. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. (Neal Martin)
JD98+98+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
The Grand Vin 2019 Château Haut-Brion checks in as a classic blend of 49% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc. Its deep purple hue is followed by a stunning bouquet of ripe black cherry and currant-like fruit as well as classic Graves cold fireplace, burning embers, tobacco, and cedar pencil. More regal, firm, and classically structured on the palate, this full-bodied beauty has a deep, concentrated mid-palate, building tannins, background oak, and a great, great finish. It’s very much in the focused, elegant, yet still concentrated and powerful style of the vintage. It will need a solid decade of cellaring, but it’s a brilliant wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Apr 2022
Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries and plums mingled with notions of pencil shavings, burning embers and creamy new oak, the 2019 Haut-Brion is full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a textural attack that segues into an ample and enveloping core of fruit, concluding with a long, expansive finish. Broad-shouldered and muscular, its rich, powdery tannins are already seamlessly integrated; and though it’s labeled at 15% alcohol, far higher than the great vintages of yesteryear, it avoids any sense of over-ripeness. Where It's From

Region / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

The 2019 Montviel is a charming, easygoing Pomerol to drink now and over the next 10–15 years. Supple, silky tannins wrap around a core of plush dark red fruit, with hints of cedar, tobacco, mint and leather that add nuance. This is nicely done. (Antonio Galloni)
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
The 2019 Château Montviel is beautiful, with a pure, precise, incredibly elegant style as well as medium-bodied aromas and flavors of black and blue fruits, damp earth, and spring flowers. It shows the seamless, balanced style of the vintage in Pomerol nicely and will keep for 15+ years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Chateau Tour Saint Christophe | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019 / 750 ml.

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 58787

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Tour Saint Christophe builds on the promise it showed from barrel. This sample was actually tasted at my home, where I afforded it a two-hour decant. It revealed precocious yet controlled blackberry and blueberry fruit scents, with that violet component still intact. The tannins have not lost any of their grippiness or assertiveness. This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential. (Neal Martin)
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
This estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn’t have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4–5 years and enjoy over the following two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Apr 2022
From clay-rich soils opposite Troplong Mondot in the commune Saint Christophe des Bardes, the 2019 Tour Saint Christophe offers up demonstrative aromas of cherries, wild berries, sweet loamy soil, licorice and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with an enveloping core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it’s a strong effort in a crowd-pleasing style. (William Kelley)

The 2019 Clos du Roy has an intense bouquet of marine-tinged black fruit, though I get the feeling that it’s already beginning to close down. The palate is medium-bodied and concentrated, with firm tannins, plenty of black fruit and impressive structure on the finish. Very fine, but give it a couple of years in bottle.

The 2019 Poesia is one of the finest wines I have ever tasted from Hélène and Patrice Lévêque. Rich and sumptuous, Poesia marries intensity with vibrancy in grand style. Poesia is a big, explosive Saint-Émilion, but it also possesses tremendous energy. Dark fruit, gravel, incense, spice and saddle leather open with a bit of coaxing. There is an exotic quality to Poesia in 2019 that is especially alluring. Brilliant. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 20, 2022
Dried flowers, mimosa, blackcurrants, peppercorns and burnt orange on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tightly wound tannins and crisp acidity. Zesty, mineral character on the tight finish. Lightly smoky at the end. Try in 2026.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022
The 2019 Poesia has the richest and most opulent bouquet with precocious black cherry, glycerine, lavender and violet aromas, bursting from the glass and gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodies with plush, ripe tannins. There is a lot of puppy fat here, rounded and perhaps “sexy” compared to the 2018, mouth-filling and voluminous. This will need time. Tasted at the Poesia vertical in Saint-Emilion. (Neal Martin)
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
The 2019 Château Poesia is a charming, up-front, straight-up sexy Saint-Emilion that brings lots of fruit yet always stays balanced and seamless. Bright red and blue berry fruits, spring flowers, tobacco, and some chalky minerality all define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a supple, elegant texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This purity of fruit is spot on, and this is another terrific vintage for this château. It already offers pleasure yet will benefit from short-term cellaring and unquestionably evolve for 20–25 years if stored properly. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP92+92–94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Jun 2020
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Poesia is a little closed to begin, soon opening out to reveal wonderfully pure notes of crushed red and black plums, fresh blackberries and warm cherries with nuances of allspice, aniseed, potpourri and forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, featuring loads of mineral sparks and a wicked backbone of freshness, with very fine-grained tannins to support, finishing long and vibrant. RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Jun 2020
Very deep purple-black colored, the 2019 L’Enclos has a classic nose of warm black plums, baked blackberries and black cherry preserves with hints of cedar chest, clove oil, licorice and smoked meats with just a touch of fragrant earth. The full-bodied palate is chock-full of concentrated black fruits with a firm, ambitious backbone of ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
An outstanding effort, the 2019 Château L’Enclos sports a dense purple hue to go with ripe, powerful aromatics of black cherries, cedary spice, iron, and subtle chocolate and earthy notes. It’s textured, balanced, and medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins. Drink it over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2016 Haut-Brion is blended of 56% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is at once profound and arresting, offering drop-dead gorgeous Morello cherries, lilacs and red rose scents with a core of Black Forest cake, warm blackcurrants and blueberry preserves plus wafts of sandalwood and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the elegantly crafted palate is completely packed with intense floral, mineral and cassis-laced flavors with a firm frame of very finely pixelated tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and achingly stunning.
VN100100 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 Haut-Brion is quite possibly even more magnificent from bottle than it was from barrel. Powerful and rich, yet not at all heavy, the 2016 is a wine of nearly indescribable beauty. Haut-Brion is often a thrilling wine, but it is rarely this finessed in its youth. Gravel, cure meat, tobacco and cedar are some of the many nuances that develop with air, but it is an extraordinary sense of harmony that really stands out. What a wine!
JS100?100–100 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 4, 2017
This is a monument for Haut-Brion and reminds me of the great 1998 but in a modern and bright style. Full-bodied, very tannic and superbly structured yet always agile and vivid. Its energy and dynamic nature grabs you by the shoulder and tells you it’s great. Staggeringly precise. It can’t get better than this, can it?
WE100100 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2019
Immensely tannic, this is a great Haut-Brion, one of the finest for many years. It shows the severe side of this estate, with a dense structure to match the powerful black fruits. Rich with berry flavors and lifted by enough acidity, the wine will age for many years. Drink from 2026.
VN9999 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 Haut-Brion has a beguiling sense of purity on the nose, which features scents of blackberry, crushed violet petals, hints of dark chocolate and even a suggestion of fresh fig. Underneath all this is a seam of mineralité that becomes more conspicuous with aeration, tightening everything up. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannin, a satiny texture, perfect acidity and incredible harmony. Everything here is in the right place. Quite sensual in style, conveying an enthralling sense of delineation on the long finish. About as good as you will find in this vintage.
SP9898 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019
Large and in charge, this has a prodigious core of steeped plum, black currant and loganberry fruit flavors that show both compote and coulis aspects. While that steeps, this delivers a sturdy frame of roasted mesquite, smoldering tobacco and incense, surrounding a muscular spine of worn cedar and tar. Still rather backward, this will be showing well when most others from the vintage have had their day. Best from 2025 through 2045. 11,600 cases made.
WE97+97–99 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
Structured and serious, this is complex and dense. Dark black-plum fruits are covered by powerful tannins and ample acidity. It is destined for long, slow aging.
