Doubleback Estate Reserve 2020 / 750 ml.

Item#: 59738

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th May 2023
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve bursts with an impressive nose and was made with the addition of 10% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. There are healthy and seductive aromas on the nose along with succulent black plum, spiced cherry compote and blackberry skin before elegant brown baking spices lift out of the glass with resinous red and purple flowers. Full-bodied, big and juicy, with plenty of oak, the palate offers a fine mineral tension, harmoniously balanced fine-grained tannins and succulent acidity. The wine continues to somersault and uncoil across the bold, long-lingering and generous finish that leaves behind a firm tannic edge. Give this at least two more years in the bottle before opening, but I suspect it will be better with three. Bravo! (Anthony Mueller)

From the Producer

Dark ruby in color, this wine takes time to unfold but screams of where it is grown - two sites in tons of basalt. McQueen with fractured basalt, and LeFore with rolled river rock, there is iron and petrichor leading aromatically with blueberry, eucalyptus, and freshly ground coffee. This wine is true elegance wrapped inside power with more blue fruit, a beautiful sweetness, and large, broad tannins. Watch this wine intellectually unfold over hours or days. Drink 2025 through 2040.

This superb value strikes first with a marine-themed nose of a salty ocean breeze, a driftwood beach fire, blackberries, olive oil and a trace of bacon fat. Smooth and viscous, with dark plum and bittersweet chocolate-covered cherries coating the palate. (Michael Alberty)

All Cabernet Sauvignon from four sites (the Grand Ciel, Klipsun, Ciel du Cheval, and Upchurch vineyards), the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Four Flags reveals a deeper plum hue to go with a blacker fruited, concentrated, powerful Cabernet offering full-bodied richness, plenty of chocolaty oak, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s another seriously good wine from this estate. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th May 2023
Coming from four vineyards—Upchurch, Grand Ciel, Klipsun and Ciel du Cheval—the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Four Flags begins with an oaky nose that is precise, focused and fresh. Aromas of black and dark red fruit tones sway with a delightfully dusty mineral essence and soft red florals. Full-bodied, fresh, firm and juicy, the palate offers a fine mineral tension and succulent acidity, while a polished frame of fruit cascades across the mid-palate before ending with a succulent, food-friendly finish and lingering tannic edge. Just under 19,000 bottles were produced after the wine aged for 20 months in all French oak, 82% first fill. Bravo! (Anthony Mueller)

Made with 6% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a rich, lively, expressive nose of black raspberry, oak and red florals that sway with sweet herbs and elegant baking spices. Full-bodied, fresh and still tannic, the wine will take a couple more years to come around but will be a juggernaut once it picks up momentum. After spending almost two years in 87% new French oak barrels, it will need some time, so be patient. (Anthony Mueller)
