A lovely, 100% varietal wine aged 20 months in French oak, this is juicy, herbal and offers a substantial foundation of power. Cedar, tobacco and tomato leaf accent a core of crushed rock, dark plum and threads of acidity—the weight and structure lifted by underlying freshness. Enjoy from 2028–2038. (Virginie Boone)
VN90+90–93 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
DuMol’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is such a gorgeous wine, especially in its peer group. Vibrant and nuanced to the core, the 2018 is endowed with tremendous class. Dark fruit, chocolate, lavender, spice and grilled herbs give this expressive, vibrant Cabernet so much detail. (Antonio Galloni)

Elegant, silky and well-balanced, this medium-bodied wine backs bright citrus and baked apple flavors with good acidity for a tangy touch that counters the generous fruit components. Aged in 30% new French barrels, it will drink best through 2030. (Jim Gordon)

A structured and layered white with apple, light honey and acacia aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Creamy mouthfeel. Phenolic texture that runs through the wine. Flavorful yet subtle finish. Touch of flint and cedar. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

The 2021 Chardonnay Wester Reach is bright and nicely focused. Lemon peel, white flowers, chalk and white pepper all lend tons of nuance. Vineyard sites are Flax, Cornerstone, Heintz, Lorenzo and El Diablo. There’s terrific energy and focus here. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2020 Pinot Noir DuMOL Estate Vineyard is resinous with pine, forested earth, and kirsch. The palate has another gear of intensity and is full with ripe tannins and a long finish. The palate gives way to cherry pit, rocky soil, and spice. Hold for a few years and drink over the following 15 or more years. (Audrey Frick)

The 2021 Chardonnay Estate Vineyard is dynamic and expressive, with generous aromas of baklava, baked apple, toast and flint. The 2021 Pinot Noir Ryan has a medium ruby color and autumnal scents of truffle and forest floor, cinnamon and Earl Grey tea leaves complementing a core of wild berry fruit. (In 2021, the wine comes from the Dutton-Jentoft and Widdoes vineyards rather than 100% from Jentoft as in previous vintages.) The medium-bodied palate is supple and detailed with a concentrated core of mineral-driven fruit. It has a silky texture, energetic acidity and a long, layered finish. This is so delicious and very easy to drink! (Erin Brooks)

Pouring a bright medium yellow/straw hue, the 2021 Chardonnay Chloe is highly expressive, with a golden perfume of pineapple, orange oil, and a bit of honeysuckle. It has full body and a rounded texture, with ripe apricot, hazelnut, and white flowers. A lusher personality to drink over the next ten years, it’s a bit more open at this youthful stage. The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard comes from Swan and Calera selection vines planted in 2004, and it is exceptionally expressive and energetic this vintage. It gains aromatic intensity as it airs in the glass, blossoming from red cherry and Italian plum to allspice, Campari, licorice and hibiscus. The 2021 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is the 20th bottling of a Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay at DuMOL. It was harvested September 25–27, matured in larger barrels and finished with six months in stainless steel. “There are very few better vintages of this,” winemaker Andy Smith exclaims during our tasting, and I have to agree. It’s bursting with scents of matchstick, chamomile, Greek yogurt and white peach, and over time, it unfurls unique spicy, herbal undertones. The palate is intensely concentrated, boasting expansive, dynamic flavors that segue from stone fruit to honey. Satiny and seamless, it has a tremendously long finish with mind-altering depth of flavor. Fans of Burgundy will love it for its flinty tones, and fans of California for its concentration and power. (Erin Brooks)
JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/21/2023
The 20th vintage DuMOL has produced from this site, the youthful golden/straw-colored 2021 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard Isobel is flinty and filled with pure fruit, including lime zest, fresh pineapple, and green apple, as well as sea spray. 2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 56156

RP99+99+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th Dec 2021
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard delivers powerful scents of blackberry preserves, chocolate-covered cherries and stewed plums, giving way to red and black currant jelly, beef drippings and wild fungi. Full-bodied, tightly wound and shimmering with tension in the mouth, it has a solid frame of firm, grainy tannins supporting the reticent fruit, finishing savory and with lots of latent energy. All the signs say that this baby is holding back right now and has more to give with considerable cellaring. Tuck it away for at least 5–6 years and then enjoy it over the next 40 years+.
JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2023
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard comes from a site just outside of St. Helena and vines planted in 2002. Offering tons of minerality as well as notions of smoky dark fruits, tobacco, new leather, and truffly earth, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. As with all the 2018s here, it’s flawlessly balanced and a heavenly, singular Cabernet Sauvignon. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th May 2023
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard comes from a site on Howell Mountain that’s planted in nine blocks, each of which is planted on two different rootstocks. Each parcel is picked, fermented and barreled separately, yielding at least 18 different lots from a vineyard that’s only 15 acres in size. On the nose, it reveals a hint of mint, followed by deep, earthy loam notes and black fruit, all underscored by vanilla and cigar box. Full-bodied, plush and expansive, this generous, open wine finishes with serious length. (Joe Czerwinski)

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 57033

JD100100 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is straight-up off-the-charts and one of the true gems in the vintage. Revealing a deep purple hue as well as extraordinary notes of crème de cassis, white flowers, spice, tobacco, and classy oak, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, no hard edges, and just perfect integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity. I’d happily enjoy a bottle today, but smart money would give these a solid 4–5 years in the cellar and it should keep for 30–40 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020
Opaque purple-black in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill Vineyard jumps from the glass with bold, gregarious scents of blueberry compote, black cherry preserves and warm cassis plus nuances of roses, star anise and candied violets with gentle wafts of dark chocolate and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is super intense with a whole fireworks display of floral sparks going off among the red and black fruits, framed by exquisitely ripe, finely pixilated tannins, finishing long and mineral laced. This edifying beauty takes Napa Valley elegance and grace to a whole new level.
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is seamless, elegant and supremely beautiful. There’s not a thing out of place. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark-fleshed fruit, with hints of chocolate, spice, leather and dried herbs that make an appearance with time in the glass. The Tychson Hill shows just how magical this vintage is.
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021
A beauty, with waves of cassis, distilled plum and warmed kirsch that glide through, carried by seemingly silky texture despite obvious tannic spine. The back end unfurls with notes of violet, incense, and red and black tea, with a subtle mineral edge, while the fruit holds the main focus. So much guile for a large-scaled wine. Best from 2022 through 2040. 600 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Next up, the 2018 La Magalena comes from the Oakville Ranch Vineyard and in 2018 is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Incredible notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, tobacco leaf, violets, and spring flowers all emerge from this beauty, and it hits the palate with flawless balance, full-bodied richness, a great, great mid-palate, and a finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. Probably a candidate for perfection in 5–7 years, this is a magical Bordeaux blend from an incredible terroir as well as a great winemaker. Hide bottles in the cellar for 5–7 years, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 30 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN97+97+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The Favia 2018 La Magdalena is a powerhouse. Huge swaths of tannin wrap around a core of inky dark red fruit as this hulking Cabernet Franc-based wine starts to open in the glass. Readers will have to be patient with the 2018, as it is rather imposing at this stage. Mocha, dried rose petal, spice and a whole range of savory notes linger. All I can say is: Wow!
