Aromas of dark cherries, blueberries, bark and sweet spices, such as cinnamon. Medium-to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Balanced and velvety with a rich core of fruit. Supple, juicy finish. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022
Moderate tannins and vibrant acidity frame the bright red and black cherry flavors in this bold and full-bodied wine. The fruit flavors are medium intensity and light oak spices add a bit of complexity. (Jim Gordon)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Mount Veeder wine loaded with strong savory and mineral accents. Black fruit, graphite menthol and licorice lend complexity to this huge, explosive Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannins are pretty fierce at this stage, so readers should plan on being patient. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 7, 2022
Blackberries and black currants with grape skin, lead pencil and pine cone. Full-bodied with round tannins and juicy fruit. Tamed tannins. Bright finish. Classy and authentic. Beautiful now, but will age beautifully.
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, and tobacco notes dominate the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a beautiful, classic, medium to full-bodied, incredibly satisfying Cabernet that does everything right. Drink this complex, perfumed, elegant beauty over the coming two decades. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, aged in 81% new French oak. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Very dark and winey in profile, with steeped plum, blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors laced with licorice snap, bramble and apple wood. A tarry note underscores the finish, while the fruit drips. A big wine balanced by inner purity. Best from 2024 through 2038. 7,699 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The only one of the Mt Brave wines that isn’t 100% varietal, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder includes 4% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Offering hints of sage and lavender entwined among waves of cassis, this full-bodied wine may not be as broad or expansive in the mouth as the La Jota, but it also might be a touch juicier and longer on the finish. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate needs a lot of swirling and coaxing to unlock notions of blackcurrant pastilles, warm black plums and mulberries, plus hints of black olives, tilled soil, mossy tree bark and violets with emerging baker’s chocolate and star anise hints. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and with impeccable poise, it has beautifully ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing epically long and earthy. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is dazzling. What a wine! Ample and creamy, the 2019 possesses striking resonance to match its elegant, refined personality. A healthy dollop of Franc adds freshness to a core of dark red cherry, red plum, mocha, spice and new leather flavors. There is a level purity here that is just remarkable. This is the first vintage that includes a small portion of wine aged in amphora. I especially admire the aromatic presence and vibrancy in the 2019. (Antonio Galloni)
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
Including 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a hidden gem. While the Maya gets all the attention, the classic Cabernet Sauvignon from this team is insanely good, year-in, year-out. The 2019 sports a dense purple color as well as quintessential Cabernet notes of cassis, black raspberries, flowers, toasted spices, and tobacco leaf. The purity of fruit is incredible, it’s full-bodied, has silky tannins, and flawless balance. It has 30 years of prime drinking ahead of it. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes all from the cool Stags Leap District and was brought up mostly in new French oak. It’s a full-bodied, ripe, powerful 2019 that nevertheless stays balanced and weightless on the palate, with silky tannins and a rare level of polish and elegance. Giving up lots of pure cassis and blue fruits as well as notes of violets, underbrush, and high-class oak, it already offers pleasure yet is going to evolve gracefully for 20 years or more. If you’re looking for ripe, sexy, seamless, and impeccably made Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, look no further. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Lail Vineyards J. Daniel Cuvee | Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 / 750 ml.

Cabernet Sauvignon
2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 62113

JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvee is just about pure perfection and another example of Napa Valley magic. All Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 80% new French oak, it offers an incredible bouquet of pure cassis and blackberry fruits as well as textbook Pauillac-like notes of graphite, tobacco, toasted spices, and chalky minerality. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, it’s one of those wines that somehow marries incredible intensity and richness with no sensation of weight or heaviness, perfect balance, and a layered, multi-dimensional style that’s hard to describe. It shows more tannins and chocolaty oak with air and needs to be forgotten for 4–6 years, and it will be a 40+-year wine. It’s heavenly juice. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP98+98+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th Oct 2022
Altogether much more serious than Lail’s Blueprint bottling (and priced accordingly), the 2019 J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon comes primarily from the Vine Hill Ranch, Dutch Canyon (Heimark) and Steltzner Vineyards. Marked by deep, seductive scents of cassis and rich loam, accented by hints of cedar and dried sage, it’s full-bodied, concentrated and rich, finishing long, velvety, seamless and elegant. Pretty special stuff. (Joe Czerwinski)
WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022
Marking the producer’s 25th anniversary, this is a tremendous powerhouse of a wine that’s sinewy, sophisticated and youthfully shy. Rich truffle, cassis and black cherry meet undeniable earthiness and savory spice, with a touch of plushness on the palate that’s still gripped in tannin. Enjoy 2029–2039. (Virginie Boone)
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvée is a total knock-out. Deep, vertical and explosive, the 2019 possesses tremendous vertical intensity and tons of sheer class. Inky dark fruit, graphite, cloves, licorice, and sweet French oak infuse the 2019 with tremendous complexity to complement its sheer opulence. Vineyard sites are Vine Hill Ranch, Heimark, Steltzner and Mole Hill. The 2019 is one of the best editions ever. (Antonio Galloni)
