Favia Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville Napa Valley 2018 / 750 ml.

Item#: 56338

JD97+97+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
Starting with the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville, this 100% Cabernet comes from the southern, cooler end of the valley and was brought up in a mix of new and used French oak. Its dense purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of cassis, candied violets, toasted spices, tobacco, and lead pencil-like nuances. These carry to a full-bodied, concentrated 2018 that offers flawless balance, building, ripe, seamless tannins, and a great finish. Very much in the more elegant, streamlined style of the vintage, it will benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age and evolve for 20–30 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville, shows why Coombsville is so magical. Deep and inky, but with striking gorgeous freshness, the Coombsville Cabernet is dazzling. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, sweet spice and licorice infuse the 2018 with fabulous depth as well as complexity. Even with all of its natural exuberance, the 2018 remains light on its feet. The 2018 has really blossomed over the last year, as I thought it would. This is a fabulous showing.

This offers up a solidly ripe core of crushed plum and warmed cassis notes laced with toasted vanilla, tobacco and a flash of loam. Light savory thread through the finish injects cut and energy. Best from 2021 through 2031. 1,502 cases made.

RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Nov 2019
A barrel sample, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon features a deep garnet-purple, singing on the nose of freshly crushed black cherries, black berry pie and warm plums over a core of cassis and pencil lead plus nuances of violets, cinnamon stick and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating, crunchy black fruit with a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.
VN90+90–93 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, pungent and savory. Black olives, grilled herbs, blackberry jam, cloves, iron and leather as well as intense barbeque smoke give the broad 2018 a wild, really exotic character. If I had tasted it blind, I would have pegged it as Syrah. The is an undeniably wild and unusual wine; I am not really sure what to make of it at this stage. It is also a rare vintage that is pure 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose is redolent of chocolate-covered cherries, blackberry preserves and black currant jelly with touches of wild sage, cast iron pan and cardamom with a waft of cumin seed. Full-bodied, the palate bursts with crunchy black fruit and loads of spicy accents, supported by firm grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and lively.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch is soft, open-knit and wonderfully inviting. Silky tannins wrap around a core of red-toned fruit. Sweet cherry, cedar, pipe tobacco and mocha are all laced together. The State Ranch is not quite as deep or powerful as some of the other wines in the range, but on the plus side, it will drink well with only minimal cellaring.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2021
This thickly concentrated wine is brimming in leather and dried herb tones. Black fruit dominates and broods along the rounded, velvety palate, offering luxury and complexity in equal measure.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2020
This is well-built, with cassis, crushed plum and blackberry fruit flavors that stretch out slowly and surely, inlaid with graphite, sweet tobacco and violet accents throughout. Ample tarry grip on the back end will need some cellaring to unwind. Best from 2022 through 2032. 4,881 cases made.

RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon again this year. "Now that the vineyard has matured, the Cabernet vines give us full, complete wines," Kapcsandy’s consulting winemaker, Tony Arcudi, said. The wine was aged in French oak, 90% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose needs a little coaxing to release scents of fresh black and red currant, blackberries and kirsch with touches of unsmoked cigars, cedar chest and violets, plus a waft of chocolate mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with super firm, super ripe tannins and amazing freshness supporting the packed-in layers of black and red fruits, finishing long and earthy/savory. Yep, nailed it. 400 cases were made.
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin is simply magnificent. I think it is the kind of wine Lou Kapcsándy always wanted to make. A wine that is everything - powerful, elegant and structured. The 2018 is all of that, and so much more. Soaring floral and mineral accents make a strong first impression. The 2018 positively sizzles with energy. Dark cherry, plum, graphite, leather and chocolate build over time. What a showstopper it is!

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain was aged for 22 months in oak barrels, 84% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it explodes from the glass with bombastic black currants, black cherries and boysenberries notes plus underlying hints of violets, dark chocolate and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and fragrant. 3,997 cases were made.
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 6, 2021
Aromas of pine needles, asphalt, graphite and black fruit follow through to a full-bodied and chewy palate with so much tannin, giving this real Howell Mountain character. It goes on and one. Muscular and in need of time in the bottle to soften. Better after 2024.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful, tightly wound wine that captures all the natural intensity of Howell Mountain. Blackberry jam, graphite, smoke ,iron and crushed rocks give this dark, massively tannic Cabernet a lot of character. Even after having been opened for several hours, the 2018 remains forbidding, with serious tannins that are going to require a good bit of cellaring before the wine becomes approachable.

Favia La Magdalena | Napa Valley Red Wine 2018 / 750 ml.

Napa Valley Red Wine
2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 56339

JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
Next up, the 2018 La Magalena comes from the Oakville Ranch Vineyard and in 2018 is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Incredible notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, tobacco leaf, violets, and spring flowers all emerge from this beauty, and it hits the palate with flawless balance, full-bodied richness, a great, great mid-palate, and a finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. Probably a candidate for perfection in 5–7 years, this is a magical Bordeaux blend from an incredible terroir as well as a great winemaker. Hide bottles in the cellar for 5–7 years, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 30 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN97+97+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The Favia 2018 La Magdalena is a powerhouse. Huge swaths of tannin wrap around a core of inky dark red fruit as this hulking Cabernet Franc-based wine starts to open in the glass. Readers will have to be patient with the 2018, as it is rather imposing at this stage. Mocha, dried rose petal, spice and a whole range of savory notes linger. All I can say is: Wow!
