From the Producer

Dark magenta color. So much fruit in this wine, ranging from fresh blackberry and raspberry to mixed berry jam. The mix of intense fruit, dark cocoa, vanilla, dried herbs and tobacco is very classic Cabernet, but the Syrah and Merlot add a softness and smoothness to the palate that really make this wine a pleasant experience weather its sipping with friends or paired with a serious meal.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series is a gem and well worth seeking out. Based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Syrah, brought up in 28% new oak, it offers an outstanding nose of blackcurrants, toasted spice, chocolate, and bouquet garni. Concentrated, firm and structured, with medium to full-bodied richness, it’s another age-worthy wine in the lineup that needs to be forgotten for 3–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Bright ruby-red. Pure, youthfully medicinal scents of cassis, boysenberry, blueberry, licorice, menthol, bitter chocolate and pungent herbs. Brisk, delineated, high-pitched and tightly wound, with classic medicinal Cabernet Sauvignon character in the early going. Dominant flavors of cassis, licorice, menthol and dark chocolate. I did not taste this bottle alongside its 2017 sibling, but the two wines strike me as quite similar in style and quality. This one is perhaps a bit sweeter and may open sooner but is still quite firm and tactile on the finish. (Stephen Tanzer)

A fragrant nose of blackcurrants, pine, rosemary, incense and sandalwood. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Structured and polished with a fresh finish. Drink from 2022.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022
This wine isn’t ready to reveal itself right now, with locked up aromas of chocolate, cocoa, cherry and spice. Coffee and cherry flavors follow. Give it some additional time in the cellar to blossom.

My favorite in the lineup, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec, all aged 22 months in new barrels. Loads of ripe red and black fruits, dried herbs, crushed stone, and savory herb notes give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet beautifully balanced, weightless Cabernet that will benefit from 4–6 years in the cellar and keep for two decades or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Dark chocolate, barrel spice, vanilla, cherry and licorice aromas are followed by luscious black fruit flavors. There’s plenty of richness, texture and seamlessness along with a whole lot of structure. A long finish caps it off. It’s all about hedonism, but still possesses impressive balance, a classically Woodward styled wine. The oak is forward at present. Give it some time in the cellar or decant. Best after 2024.
JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 12, 2021
Blackcurrants, black cherries, charcoal, walnuts and cedar on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins. Concentrated and flavorful with a succulent core of dark, spiced fruit. Try from 2022.
VN91+91+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
Bright, dark ruby-red. Brooding, almost inky scents of blackberry, blueberry, licorice, dark chocolate and minerals. Tightlyl wound but already seamless and fine-grained, with a high pitch to its flavors of dark berries, herbs, licorice and spicy oak. The impression of inner-mouth energy carries through to the firmly tannic, bright, lifted finish, which leaves the salivary glands quivering. Still quite dry and youthfully imploded, and in need of cellaring. This began a touch sweeter than the Artist Series #27 but turned more penetrating and less pliant with 24 hours in the recorked bottle.

Just bottled, the 100% varietal 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has a juicy, fruit-forward, delicious style as well as notes of ripe black cherries, tobacco, and leafy herbs. With plenty of fruit, ripe tannins, and loads to love, drink it over the coming 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 10th Dec 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon opens to a core of red and black fruit on the nose, with a dusty floral essence. Medium-bodied, the straightforward expression offers a balanced structure and ends with a clean finish, leaving soft flavors of dried herbs and black cherry that linger in the mouth. Give it a try.

JD97+97+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
The flagship from this great estate is the 2018 Sorella, a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend (8% each of Cabernet Franc and Merlot and the 4% Petit Verdot) that spent the same 22 months in 35% new French oak. Gorgeous crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, lead pencil, and chocolate define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, and has a great, great finish. A classically styled, structured, age-worthy beauty, it will benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age and have 2–3 decades of overall longevity. Trust me, this will pass undetected in a blind lineup of top Bordeaux. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
Set to be released in spring of 2023, the 2018 Sorella is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with Petit Verdot filling in the remainder. Juicy, dusty and spicy aromas waft from the glass with succulent, floral notes that capture the nose. Spiced red cherries, potpourri and dusty black raspberry essences cartwheel with notions of lavender and rose hip before offering up delicate baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is initially subdued and grows in amplitude while offering a balanced structure with succulent tannins. The longer the wine sits on the palate, it increases in spiciness under the ripe, juicy dark red fruit tones. The Sorella continues to evolve in the mouth with persistence, lingering long, leaving behind flavors graphite, crème de cassis and black cherry skin. Just under 8,000 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 22 months in all French oak, 35% new. Set your calendar and put this on your shopping list for when it’s released. Bravo, another stunning vintage of Sorella on the books. (Anthony Mueller)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023
The 2018 Sorella is youthly coy in the glass, with a darkly alluring blend of dusty dried flowers, cinnamon and clove nuances giving way to pretty hints of violet pastilles. There’s an abundance of energy within, as tart cherries and blackberries cascade across a core of zesty acidity, and sour citrus hints adding a lovely tension toward the close. A coating of fine tannins frames the finish, creating a truly classic feel, as the 2018 tapers off with a staining of primary concentration. (Eric Guido)

Rich and delicious to consume now, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain shows off ripe blackberry, black cherry and scorched earth tones on the palate. Full-bodied, with good finesse and depth, this youthful Cabernet Sauvignon will provide drinking enjoyment over the next decade.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Oct 2021
The 2018 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon starts with a firm, dusty and juicy nose with aromas of tasty black cherry, wilted lavender and roses with elements of redcurrants and crème de cassis. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is juicy and features dusty tannins, with flavors of black plum and juicy black Raspberry skin across the mid-palate. The Cabernet concludes with firm, tannic edge and a lingering flavor of crème de violette. This rested for 20 months in French oak, 40% new, and represents a great value for the price. 252,000 bottles were filled.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2022
