Critical Acclaim

JS93 JamesSuckling.com Tuesday, August 9, 2022

"A delicious, savory cabernet with aromas and flavors of dried flowers and cherries. Medium body with round, creamy tannins. Savory and flavorful. Supple. Real cabernet character. Delicious now." (93 pts.)

RP87 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 31st May 2022

"With 180,000 cases produced and a price tag under $25 (savvy shoppers will be able to find it under $20), consumers shouldn’t overlook Martini’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County, which comes largely from the Gallo-owned properties of Frei Ranch (39%) and Barrel Creek (34%). It offers up bright cassis notes on the nose, plus hints of boysenberry and cherry, while the medium to full-bodied palate is silky and softly dusty on the finish. While it’s less rich and complex than many more expensive Cabernets from Napa and Sonoma, it’s a solid, fruit-forward wine that most readers should find affordable. (Joe Czerwinski)" (87 pts.)

SP87 Wine Spectator Web only – 2022

"Direct and solid, with a core of black currant and plum fruit laced liberally with roasted tobacco leaf and vanilla accents. Drink now through 2024. 180,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)" (87 pts.)

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
