When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a sumptuous, heady wine. It possesses tremendous richness and pure power from the outset. Inky dark fruit, mocha, espresso, leather and licorice infuse the 2019 with notable character. This deep, potent Cabernet delivers the goods, big time. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the gate with bold blackcurrant and blackberry preserves scents, plus hints of tilled soil, truffles and unsmoked cigars. The full-on opulent, rich, velvety palate is decadently laden with black fruit preserves and earthy accents, finishing long with a lively lift. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2022
The 2019 Patrimony Cabernet Sauvignon was made with free-run juice and matured for 30 months in 100% new French oak. It has a deep ruby color and alluring tones of truffle, brown sugar and coffee to begin, opening with time to very pure cassis, boysenberry, tobacco, garrigue and aniseed. The palate is supple and fresh with surprisingly restrained, mineral-laced fruits and a fan of spicy accents across the long finish. This ultra sleek, elegant Cabernet evolves continually in the glass and has the harmonious structure it needs to go the distance in the cellar. (Erin Brooks)
JD97+97–99 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/30/2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon continues to show brilliantly. (I rated it 97–100 from barrel last year.) It has a quintessential Cabernet nose of pure crème de cassis, crushed stone, lead pencil, graphite, and tobacco that gains depth and richness with time in the glass. Deep, full-bodied, rich, and incredibly textured, yet still fresh, light on its feet, and beautifully balanced, this gorgeous Cabernet shows what’s possible with the variety from Paso Robles. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Patrimony lifts from the glass with a classic bouquet of black currant, lifting hints of rosemary, graphite and dusty sage. It’s silky, nearly creamy in feel, with depths of ripe dark red fruit and sweet spice that swirl throughout. A web of fine-grained tannins engulfs the palate. While powerful and structured, the impact is well-measured, leaving the senses clenched in youthful poise as pretty inner florals slowly fade. What a beauty, and with such an amazingly bright future. (Eric Guido)
RP95+95–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Mar 2022
The 2019 Patrimony is fresh and minerally at this stage. Still in barrel, it’s made entirely of free-run Cabernet Sauvignon and will be aged for 30 months in 100% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple, it’s scented of blueberry liqueur, thyme, mint chocolate and dried herbs with savory wafts of soy sauce. The full-bodied palate is grainy and fresh, with a long, spicy finish. It has the detail and balance to allow it to pick up complexity as it continues along its evolution toward bottling. (Erin Brooks)

VN98+98+ pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like a barrel sample, such is its purity of fruit and lushness! It is perhaps the most opulent wine ever made here and therefore likely to require a number of years before it is even close to being ready to drink. Primary fruit and plush contours are front and center. The 2019 needs time to come together, and yet its sheer beauty is impossible to miss. The 2019 is a real head-turner, that much is clear. (Antonio Galloni)
WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022
This red is beautifully rich and supple in red fruit, polished tannin and a depth of layered complexity. It is broad and generous, with complexity to age and fresh, lasting acidity that illuminates and energizes the palate. Enjoy from 2029–2039. (Virginie Boone)
JS9898 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, October 5, 2022
Flowers and brambleberries on the nose, together with lavender and sandalwood. Very perfumed. Full-bodied, yet very tight and polished, with gentle, graceful sensibility that shows through clearly and subtly. The tannins are soft and focused, providing finesse and a fine texture that runs the length of the wine. Very attractive now, but even better in 2025.

WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
This grows at Beringer’s 600-acre Knight’s Valley ranch, in the hills west of Calistoga, where the harvest in 2019 extended from mid- to late October. The wine sustains the cool elegance this vineyard can give to cabernet, a supple, high-elevation wine with gentle ripeness, lasting on notes of tarragon and fresh garden herbs.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
There were more than 160,000 cases of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley produced, so it’s good to see that it is performing well. There’s an attractive floral top note that adds a touch of complexity to the cassis fruit, while the medium to full-bodied palate is silky and even elegant. It’s a better wine — and far better value — than many entry-level wines sourced from Napa Valley.
VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is a powerful, wild and brooding wine It shows good depth, but I find the mid-palate lacking in depth and less freshness than I expect to see in a young Knights Valley wine. Hints of cherry, earthiness and gravel linger, but the 2019 never comes together fully. (Antonio Galloni)

This deep and potentially ageworthy blend from both valley and hillside sites is a baritone, showing deep bass notes of black currant, toasted oak and espresso on a great structure of fine-grained tannins and a full body. Best 2026–2036. (Jim Gordon)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Lavishly fruited, with almost sweet, jammy flavors of black cherries, dried spices and vanilla, Vineyard 29’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru includes fruit from 14 vineyards and is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. Full-bodied and soft, it finishes long, plush and cedary. (Joe Czerwinski)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru (Napa Valley) is a fabulous value. A burst of dark red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice gives the Cru its exuberant, open-knit personality. Most of the fruit in the blend is from sites in St. Helena. Once again, Vineyard 29 delivers with their Cru Cabernet Sauvignon. (Antonio Galloni)
