Still showing brilliantly (and I don’t expect that to change), the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has the ripe, expansive, sexy style of the vintage front and center. Loads of crème de cassis, blueberries, crushed violets, and spice all soar from this beauty, which is powerful and rich, yet perfectly balanced. At the same quality level as the 2013, it’s nevertheless in a much more approachable, flamboyant style. Drink it any time over the coming two decades or more. It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous wine. Staglin’s 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is ripe, racy and voluptuous, which is to say very much in line with the style of the year. Kirsch, succulent red cherry, mint and spice add layers of nuance, but in this vintage it is the wine’s raciness and sweet, silky tannins that give the wine its forward, open-knit personality. Ripeness is pushed to the edge in the 2015, and yet all the elements flow together effortlessly. Even with all of its obvious ripeness an raciness, this is decidedly a mid-weight style of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a decadent nose of warm blackcurrants, blackberry preserves and ripe black plums plus suggestions of chocolate box, baking spices, fertile loam and dried Mediterranean herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with expressive black fruits and savory nuances. With a solid structure of chewy tannins and balanced freshness, it finishes long and earthy. This was tasted as a barrel sample.

Pure, rich, deep and balanced, well-centered on plush blackberry, wild berry, currant, black licorice, light oak and dusty earth flavors. Lets the fruit shine through, with oak in the background. Best from 2020 through 2024. 1,550 cases made.

This shows plenty of dark plums and spiced dark chocolate. Hints of orange skin and cloves, too. So deep and intense on the palate. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a powerful and bright finish. Drink or hold.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Stone the Crows is beautifully polished and nuanced. Bright red cherry, pomegranate, kirsch, mint and wild flowers all develop with air, but it is the wine’s textural feel that stands out most. Silky tannins add to the wine’s considerable finesse. This is one of the more restrained 2015s readers will come across. I would prefer to give the 2015 at least a few years to allow the tannins to soften. Even at this early stage, though, the 2015 is compelling. This is a superb showing from proprietor Rick Talmadge and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Three Twins Vineyard is very deep inky purple in color and possesses a gorgeous blackcurrant cordial, blueberry tart and plum preserves nose, with touches of sandalwood, dried herbs, lavender and menthol plus a waft of cardamom. Full, concentrated, very pure, rich and vibrant, with velvety tannins and just enough freshness, it finishes long.

Enticing, with the frankly ripe profile of the vintage showing off in a display of slightly exotic plum and blackberry coulis flavors, while dark licorice, menthol and sassafras notes course through. Sweet spice accents sparkle through the finish, revealing a lingering hint of singed juniper. The long finish features rippling acidity. Best from 2022 through 2038. 2,300 cases made.

A blend of 88.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.4% Petit Verdot, 4.2% Cabernet Franc and 3.2% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Sycamore Vineyards comes skipping out of the glass with a spring it its step and singing notes of crushed blackcurrants, fresh blackberries and red and black plums with touches of underbrush, fungi, wild sage, chocolate mint and cigar boxes. Full-bodied and built like a brick house, it has a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the generous, crunchy fruit, finishing long with a touch of minerality. 2,101 cases produced.

Abreu Las Posadas | Napa Valley Red Wine 2015 / 750 ml.

Napa Valley Red Wine
2015 / 750 ml.

Item #: 53309

RP98+98–100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
Abreu is now calling his vineyard on Howell Mountain (a tract of 33 acres with 15 planted) Las Posadas, after the road high on the mountain that seems to be the Fifth Avenue of Howell Mountain vineyard sites. The seamless 2015 Las Posadas Proprietary Red nearly redefines opulence, extravagance, and intensity in its haute couture style. A candidate for perfection, the wine has notes of fruitcake, licorice, black truffle, forest floor, spring flowers, and black fruits that literally soar from the glass and continue across the palate with a cascade of earthly delights. This is a magnificent, almost chillingly perfect wine that has to be tasted to be experienced.
JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019
The 2015 Las Posadas comes from an estate vineyard on Howell Mountain that lies at 2,000 feet in elevation, above the fog line. This singular effort has a flamboyant, mineral-laced bouquet of black and blue fruits, forest floor, camphor, chocolate, and exotic flowers, and is an incredible expression of this mountain terroir. With great, great intensity, beautiful purity of fruit, and again, this savory, mineral-driven character, it has enough tannins to warrant 2–4 years of bottle age and will keep for 4–5 decades. This cuvée is 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot and Malbec. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2015 Las Posadas is dark, sensual and totally inviting. Plush fruit and silky tannins push the black plum and blackberry fruit forward. Deep and resonant on the palate, the 2015 exudes class from start to finish. Like the rest of the other Abreu 2015s, the Posadas will drink well upon release. Hints of lavender and spice meld into the pliant, inviting finish. There is so much to like here.

Very deep garnet-purple, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon 29 Estate has a wonderfully complex nose chock full of smoked meat, yeast extract, toast, sautéed herbs and savory notes over a crème de cassis and blackberry tart core with hints of violets, damp loam and black truffles. Full-bodied, concentrated and full-on opulent in the mouth, the palate is laden with savory, earth and dark fruit layers with a velvety frame and lively lift on the long finish. 670 cases were made.
VN92+92+ pts. - Vinous - Apr 2018
Deep, saturated ruby. Captivating aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and menthol are complicated by a very ripe note of dark chocolate and lifted by a lovely violet element. Superripe, chocolatey and dense, conveying a youthfully medicinal quality to its black cherry and licorice flavors; aeration brought a subtle note of sesame paste. Finishes with huge, chewy tannins that dust the tongue and teeth. A bit youthfully brutal, this wine should evolve at a snail’s pace. The crop level here was just 2.4 tons per acre, according to Emerson. Incidentally, this was the first year in which the winery used Portacork’s ICON-certified corks utilizing NDtech technology to guarantee that corks do not have detectible levels of TCA. From an early harvest that was over by September 16.
