Tenuta Guado al Tasso Il Bruciato 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 59421

RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Feb 2024
A market favorite, the Marchesi Antinori 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Guado al Tasso Il Bruciato is an all-encompassing blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 19% Merlot, 15% Syrah and 6% Petit Verdot. The wine starts off in stainless steel, with the Merlot and Syrah at lower temperatures. It does malolactic fermentation in barrique and steel vat, the blend is created and then the wine is racked back into barrique. It shows abundant oak with baking chocolate, sweet spice, ripe blackberry, roasted coconut and espresso bean. I can see the commercial appeal, given the generous oak, but the whole effect is a little less interesting if you are looking for actual fruit. This is a big release of 1,000,000 bottles. Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The 2021 Guidalberto, San Guido’s blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is soft, succulent and alluring right out of the gate. The supple contours of Merlot lend fleshiness to this mid-weight, racy Maremma blend. Ripe red cherry fruit, spice, leather and tobacco are nicely pushed forward. Best of all, the 2021 will drink well right out of the gate. (Antonio Galloni)

Concentrated and dense, with dark fruit flavors of blackberry, blueberry and black currant, this red also reveals black olive and iron accents. The tannins clamp down for now, yet this is balanced overall, with everything well-proportioned. Long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2038. 35,400 cases made. Tenuta San Guido Le Difese 2021 / 750 ml.

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 61504

VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The 2021 Le Difese is redolent of crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium in body yet nicely layered, the 2021 is impeccably balanced. It is also a sheer delight to taste at this early stage. In many vintages, Le Difese is a fruity, forward wine, but the 2021 has a nervy feeling of classicism that is hugely appealing. It’s one of my favorite recent vintages. As it has been for some time, Le Difese is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate and Sangiovese purchased from several properties in Chianti Classico, with the energy of Sangiovese very much driving the feel in this vintage. (Antonio Galloni)

This red delivers cherry, berry and rose flavors shaded by earth and a touch of minerality. Tips to the tannic side on the finish, with fine length. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2024 through 2032. 28,300 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
