Item#: 58547
The 2020 Morgon Bellevue Sable mingles aromas of cherries and wild plums with hints of violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and satiny, with succulent acids and melting tannins, it’s charming and seamless, standing out as one of the most demonstrative, immediate wines in the range. (William Kelley)

Where It's From
Country / France
The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.
Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

The 2020 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain A Minima bursts with aromas of berries, plums and cherries. Medium-bodied, rich and hearty, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and ripe tannins, it has turned out nicely. As usual, it’s a blend of equal parts Gamay and Pinot Noir, vinified without added sulfites. (William Kelley)
The 2020 A Minima, Trapet’s Passetoutgrain, is quite floral on the nose, transparent and quite earthy in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly candied opening, lightly spiced with a twist of sour cherry on the piquant finish. Forward and simply a lot of gluggable fun. (Neal Martin)

The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with aromas of wild berries, spices, rose petals, loamy soil and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with impressive reserves of ripe tannin and sapid fruit, it’s seamless and lively, concluding with a long, resonant finish. As ever, this is built to age, and it will reward patience, even if its youthful charms are considerable.

Aromas of red berries, cherries, peonies and orange rind introduce the 2020 Morgon La Voûte Saint-Vincent, a medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent wine with a seamless, integrated profile. Beautifully balanced, it’s a charming, youthfully approachable cuvée emphasizing the climat of Douby.

Opening in the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums, spices and smoke, the 2021 Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Melanie is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with a sweet core of fruit, tangy acids, powdery tannins and penetrating finish. It’s one example of a 2021 that I prefer to its riper, more powerful 2020 counterpart. (William Kelley)

One of the last cuvées to be bottled this year was the 2021 Morgon Pré Jourdan, an impressive effort redolent of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, rose petals and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it’s layered and charming, with attractive balance and a long, expansive finish. (William Kelley)

The 2018 Morgon Bellevue Sable comes from younger vines, planted on Viala rootstock in sandy soils — as the “sable” newly added to its label makes clear. Revealing aromas of blackberries, smoked meats, cracked pepper and violets, it’s medium to full-bodied, ample and muscular, with powdery structuring tannin, juicy acids and a blockier, more reserved profile than the Chiroubles and Brouilly that preceded it. This will demand a couple of years’ patience before it shows all its cards.

Bouland’s 2021 Morgon Bellevue Sable opens in the glass with scents of cherries, plums, peonies and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, supple and giving, the sandy soils (and younger vines) from which it derives naturally lend it a more open-knit profile. (William Kelley)
