Chateau Poitevin Medoc | Cru Bourgeois Superieur 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 58072

VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Poitevin has a perfumed, floral bouquet with more red fruit than I observed from barrel, showing fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very cohesive and harmonious. There’s just a touch of graphite on the finish. Stylish, top-notch Poitevin. (Neal Martin)

The 2019 Poitevin is performing better than it did when I tasted it earlier this year, when I suspect it was still shut down after bottling. Opening in the glass with attractive aromas of orange zest, sweet red berries, petals and spices, it’s medium-bodied, lively and elegant, with lovely purity of fruit and nicely integrated structure. (William Kelley)

Ripe blackberries, crushed raspberries, dried thyme and mocha on the nose. Medium body with lightly chewy tannins. Firm and compact with savory tea-leaf character. Drink from 2023.

Where It's From

Region / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Very deep purple-black colored, the 2019 L’Enclos has a classic nose of warm black plums, baked blackberries and black cherry preserves with hints of cedar chest, clove oil, licorice and smoked meats with just a touch of fragrant earth. The full-bodied palate is chock-full of concentrated black fruits with a firm, ambitious backbone of ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
An outstanding effort, the 2019 Château L’Enclos sports a dense purple hue to go with ripe, powerful aromatics of black cherries, cedary spice, iron, and subtle chocolate and earthy notes. It’s textured, balanced, and medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins. Drink it over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Poesia is one of the finest wines I have ever tasted from Hélène and Patrice Lévêque. Rich and sumptuous, Poesia marries intensity with vibrancy in grand style. Poesia is a big, explosive Saint-Émilion, but it also possesses tremendous energy. Dark fruit, gravel, incense, spice and saddle leather open with a bit of coaxing. There is an exotic quality to Poesia in 2019 that is especially alluring. Brilliant. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 20, 2022
Dried flowers, mimosa, blackcurrants, peppercorns and burnt orange on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tightly wound tannins and crisp acidity. Zesty, mineral character on the tight finish. Lightly smoky at the end. Try in 2026.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022
The 2019 Poesia has the richest and most opulent bouquet with precocious black cherry, glycerine, lavender and violet aromas, bursting from the glass and gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodies with plush, ripe tannins. There is a lot of puppy fat here, rounded and perhaps “sexy” compared to the 2018, mouth-filling and voluminous. This will need time. Tasted at the Poesia vertical in Saint-Emilion. (Neal Martin)
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
The 2019 Château Poesia is a charming, up-front, straight-up sexy Saint-Emilion that brings lots of fruit yet always stays balanced and seamless. Bright red and blue berry fruits, spring flowers, tobacco, and some chalky minerality all define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a supple, elegant texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This purity of fruit is spot on, and this is another terrific vintage for this château. It already offers pleasure yet will benefit from short-term cellaring and unquestionably evolve for 20–25 years if stored properly. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP92+92–94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Jun 2020
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Poesia is a little closed to begin, soon opening out to reveal wonderfully pure notes of crushed red and black plums, fresh blackberries and warm cherries with nuances of allspice, aniseed, potpourri and forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, featuring loads of mineral sparks and a wicked backbone of freshness, with very fine-grained tannins to support, finishing long and vibrant. Chateau Cheval Blanc St.-Emilion Grand Cru | 1er Grand Cru Classe "A" 2019 / 750 ml.

1er Grand Cru Classé “A”
2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 60862

RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Apr 2022
One of the unequivocally great wines of the vintage is the 2019 Cheval Blanc, a stunning young Saint-Émilion that wafts from the glass with aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with notions of lilac, pipe tobacco, violets, raw cocoa, licorice, crushed mint and burning embers. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it’s deep and intense, with beautifully rich, powdery tannins and vibrant flavors. Concluding with a long, saline finish, this rivals the 2016 as the finest Cheval Blanc of the decade, and in many respects it might be thought of as the latter vintage’s sun-kissed cousin. Bravo to Pierre-Olivier Clouet and his team! (William Kelley)
VN100100 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Cheval Blanc is a stunning, riveting wine. There is simply nothing like a great Cheval in all of Bordeaux. Soaring aromatics are immediately alluring. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, espresso and dried herbs build in a Cheval that possesses tremendous layers and exceptional balance. Clean, mineral notes lend tension and drive. The 2019 is a bit strict today and not ready to show all its cards, but it is very clearly a special, special wine in the making. In 2019, the Grand Vin represents 82.5% of the estate’s production, a very high amount by any measure. I wouldn’t dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. The 2019 is an eternal Cheval Blanc. (Antonio Galloni)
JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
Reminding me slightly of the 1990, the 2019 Château Cheval Blanc is a brilliant, brilliant wine from this estate that’s up there with the true greats. It shows the purity, finesse, and elegance of the vintage beautifully yet backs it up with density, concentration, and depth, revealing a stunning nose of red and black currants, tobacco leaf, new saddle leather, and spring flowers, with absolutely perfect ripeness. As complex and nuanced as only Cheval Blanc can be, even at this young age, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, abundant opulence, fat, and sweetness, polished tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It’s almost in a class all its own. It deserves at least 5–7 years of bottle age and will shine for 30+ years. Hats off to Pierre-Olivier Clouet, who continues to keep this estate at the top of the pyramid in Saint-Emilion! (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN96+96+ pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The 2019 Cheval Blanc is much more understated on the nose compared to its peers. Cedar and graphite merge with black fruit, but it is missing a bit of vigor at present. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite structured though a little more austere and drier. Grouchy, which makes me think of Lafleur when it’s young. Very impressive length though. A deceptive wine. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. (Neal Martin)

The 2019 Haut-Bailly had just been bottled prior to my visit. This is better than the 2018 with brilliant delineation on the nose and newfound purity. The palate is silky smooth with enormous depth, wonderful concentration and outstanding precision towards the finish with layers of lightly spiced black fruit. This is Fabulous with a capital “F”. Tasted at the Haut-Bailly vertical at the château. (Neal Martin)
JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
A beautiful, elegant, and quintessential expression of this terroir, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2019 Château Haut-Bailly offers up a tight yet promising bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, darker cherries, iron, tobacco leaf, scorched earth, and cedar pencil. Possessing incredible minerality, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a classy, aristocratic, regal style, it opens up nicely with air and will benefit from 5–7 years of bottle age and have a lengthy prime drinking plateau of 20–30 years. It’s another pure class release from this great estate, which is run by the talented Véronique Sanders. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Apr 2022
The 2019 Haut-Bailly unwinds in the glass with complex aromas of dark berries, bay leaf, loamy soil and cigar wrapper, framed by a discreet patina of new oak. Full-bodied, velvety and elegantly muscular, it’s powerful and concentrated, with lively acids and an abundance of ripe but youthfully assertive structuring tannin that will demand some patience.
