Lots of ripe cherry, mulberry, and currant-like fruits as well as spice, beef broth, and dried herb notes, emerge from the 2018 Merlot Stoneridge Vineyard. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a soft, plush texture, terrific mid-palate depth (which can be lacking in a number of Merlots), sweet tannins, and a great finish. Drink bottles any time over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A full-bodied, plush red with aromas of plums, cherries, vanilla, rust and hazelnut. Polished and spiced with a full, creamy palate and fine-grained tannins. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

From the Producer

Cedar, tar, and pipe tobacco fill the nose, giving way to a focused palate that lays out black raspberry and forest floor. In a silky persistence of great complexity, this wine leaves plenty to the imagination for the drinker to discover.

Long Shadows has crafted a beautiful new Right Bank style 2018 Merlot Pedestal, which is nearly all Merlot (82%) with smaller portions of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Once on the nose this shows an intoxicating bouquet of black currant jelly, espresso bean and shades of black licorice candy. The mouthfeel captured here is exquisite as the Merlot seamlessly glides across the mid-palate delivering a decadent core of dark fruits, black licorice, black peppercorn and espresso ground tones. Finishing very long, this is already a beautifully evolved wine that will improve with an hour in the decanter. (Owen Bargreen)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2021
Dark-fruited and with a dense and inky core, the 2018 Pedestal Merlot offers aromas of resinous purple flowers with hints of oak and blackberry jus. Full-bodied and firm on the palate, the deep and complex expression will take another year to fill out its shoes. The wine ahs firm gripping tannins across the mid-palate along with a tight mineral tension, then lingers with persistent notions of spiced plum compote and graphite. Give it another year in the bottle, and then drink it over the next 10 to 12 years. (Anthony Mueller)

I loved the 2018 Red Blend Pollard Vineyard from Robin Pollard, and this might be the finest wine I’ve tasted from this vineyard. A blend of 40% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a pretty, perfumed bouquet of red and blue fruits, leafy tobacco, cedarwood, and spring flowers. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, balanced, elegant red with polished, fine-grained tannins, wonderful purity, and a great finish. All about finesse and elegance, it will evolve for 10–15 years if well stored. (Jeb Dunnuck)

All Cabernet from a site on the Royal Slope, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stoneridge Vineyard has a ruby/plum hue as well as complex, medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of dried tobacco, baking chocolate, spice box, and tapenade. With beautiful red and black currant fruits, a plush, rounded texture, building tannins, and a great finish, it’s every bit as good as the 2015, 2016, and 2017. It’s another complex, layered, irresistible wine from this estate that will keep for a good decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 12, 2021
Plum, cherry, stewed strawberry, vanilla and toffee on the nose. Some moss and bark. It’s full-bodied with firm, tight-grained tannins. Juicy and polished with intense, spiced and dried-fruit aromas. Chewy finish. Drink or hold.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stoneridge Vineyard has a dark magenta core and aromas of dusty black cherry skin and black tea before elements of vanilla and sweet oak sway from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the Cabernet is still tight with a firm tannic backbone before offering dark red fruit essences that lingers with a delightfully expressive, mineral-laced finish. Give it one more year in bottle and drink through 2028. Just over 4,900 bottles were produced. (Anthony Mueller)

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Cs is going to be another terrific value from this team. Cassis, blackberries, sage, tobacco, and leafy herb notes all define the aromatics, and it’s medium-bodied, balanced, and elegant on the palate. It’s going to shine right out of the gate. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Straightforward and appealing for its nicely structured flavors of blackberry, dark mocha and toasty spices. Ends with perky tannins. Drink now through 2030. 202,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)
