Vietti Barolo Ravera 2018 / 750 ml.

Item#: 57041

WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
This wine’s robust red cherry and berry flavors surge through taut, ferrous tannins, maintaining a cool elegance as the wine fleshes out with exposure to air. Girded by a tarry undertone, the flavors are impressively precise, the tannins finely chiseled, the aromas exuberant and fresh.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barolo Ravera is a wine of real depth and vertical structure. As always, the Ravera is a taut, nervy Barolo built on energy more than volume. Readers will have to be patient, as the Ravera is likely to require a number of years to be at its most expressive. Even in the early going, it is vibrant and full of life. Rose petal, chalk, blood orange and white pepper lend striking exotic top notes that are quite suggestive of what the future is going to bring. What a gorgeous Barolo this is.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

A supple red hallmarked by elegance and finesse, featuring rose, strawberry, cherry and accents of eucalyptus and mint, which ply the refined texture and structure. Balanced and persists on the fruit-filled aftertaste, where a mineral element emerges. Shows excellent length. Best from 2024 through 2042. 2,158 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

Conterno Barolo Francia 2018 / 750 ml.

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 58976

VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022
The 2018 Barolo Francia is powerful, deep and also a touch austere. It shows the edginess of all the 2018s, but also has a feeling of textural creaminess that adds tons of character. Spice, menthol, leather and a whole range of balsamic overtones build into the deep, imposing finish. Roberto Conterno decided to forego his Barolo Monfortino in 2018, opting instead to blend all the casks into his Francia bottling. When that happens, Francia often surprises down the road. That could very well turn out to be the case here. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2012
Offers depth and power, with menthol and wild herbs shading cherry and plum flavors. The balance tips toward the tannins in the end, yet this doesn’t feel overly astringent, just more structured than many wines of the vintage. Picks up a mineral element as this lingers on the finish. Needs time. Best from 2025 through 2043. 2,167 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
RP94+94–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
Of the three Barolo samples I tasted from barrel (including Arione and Cerretta, which are also from Serralunga d’Alba), the Giacomo Conterno 2018 Barolo Francia was the furthest behind and the hardest to pin down at this stage in its infancy. I have opened my range of scores accordingly to compensate for the magical unknowns that are likely to occur as the wine moves toward greater harmony and integration before its commercial release. The wine is linear and pointedly focused, lacking the width and volume it will gain when given more time to flesh out and relax. The aromas are also quite primary and simple at this point, with dark cherry and even a hint of ripe strawberry ceding gradually to grilled herb, blue flower and baked brick. This vintage of Barolo Francia will require patience. (Monica Larner)

Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 2018 / 750 ml.

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 57040

RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jun 2022
The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito represents Vietti’s interpretation of Serralunga d’Alba, the village often associated with the most powerful wines in the appellation. The Lazzarito completes its secondary fermentation in barrique over three months and is then racked into large oak botti for an additional two years of aging. With some 8,000 bottles produced in this smaller vintage, the wine is very indicative of its geographic origins with tight black fruit, rusty nail, blood orange and earth. Compared to the others in this series, this wine delivers more lasting tannic power. A bit salty and savory now, it is well suited to long aging. (Monica Larner)
WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
There’s a pleasant, crunchy edge to the red cherry and raspberry flavors in this wine that continues from start to finish. High-toned and floral, the wine gains layers of tobacco, blood orange and menthol with air, maintaining freshness and depth for nearly a week after opening—an indicator that this is a 2018 Barolo with good aging potential.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito is tense, vibrant and very much closed in on itself. Searing tannins and Serralunga structure dominate today. Crushed rocks, gravel, red fruit, rose petal, lavender and sage all run though this sculpted, vibrant Serralunga Barolo. What stands out most about the Lazzarito today is that is stylistically more similar to the other Barolos than it was a few years ago. I expect great things in time here.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2022
Round and full of plum, cherry, pomegranate, green tea and eucalyptus flavors, this red is also dense and muscular. Gripping tannins reign on the finish. Overall, this is balanced and very long. Best from 2026 through 2043. 774 cases made, 225 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, March 3, 2022
Quite a flamboyant feel to this on the nose, showing raspberries and grainy notes, together with hints of fresh mushrooms. Some brighter passion fruit comes through with air. Medium-bodied with an intense core of vibrant fruit and youthful tannin which together, given time, will add length and breadth to the wine. Wait for this one. Try from 2024.

The 2018 Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti is hauntingly beautiful. Sweet dried red cherry, mint, sweet pipe tobacco, white pepper, orange peel, cinnamon, spicecake. This ethereal, light to medium-bodied Barolo is incredibly beguiling and distinctive. It’s a classic Roagna wine and a fabulous effort in this very challenging year. (Antonio Galloni)

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2022
The 2018 Barolo embarks on a rather straightforward performance initially, and the wine gains in complexity as it opens in the glass. The bouquet is elegant and tapered with wild berry, spice and licorice. It is ample in terms of mouthfeel, delivering medium texture and depth. Classic and elegant are two appropriate descriptors. The estate released 12,000 bottles in this vintage. (Monica Larner)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barolo is a very pretty wine for this vintage. Sweet dried cherry, mint, spice, worn-in leather and dried herbs are all laced together in this attractive, somewhat ethereal Barolo. All the elements are nicely balanced. The 2018 won’t be a long-lived Barolo, but it is quite appealing today. (Antonio Galloni)

JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/13/2024
Coming from the hill of La Morra (the fresher corner of the Barolo region), the nose of the 2020 Barolo Ravera boasts a lovely complete bouquet of licorice, rose petal, and fresh cherries, with a bright lift. Raised only in large cask, this medium-bodied Barolo is refined on the palate, with fine tannins, a silky mouthfeel, and a balanced and harmonious feel. It offers a Burgundian aesthetic and a long, graceful finish. Drink 2025–2045. (Audrey Frick)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2024
Picked on October 9 and 10, the 2020 Barolo Ravera has plenty of Ravera classicism and tension, but also feels a bit light in the mid-palate. Ravera is never a huge wine in body, but the depth is often there, even if expressed in an understated and more linear manner. The 2020 lacks that depth. Red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and white pepper lend brilliance throughout. (Antonio Galloni)

Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 2017 / 750 ml.

2017 / 750 ml.

Item #: 54231

JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/27/2021
From the southwest facing amphitheater of Lazzarito in Serralunga d’Alba the 2017 Barolo Lazzarito was aged for 30 months in a combination of large oak casks and barrique. The nose is layered with elegant spice and floral notes of cedar, red plum, and brushed leather. There is incredible balance within its structure, which has deceptive ease for early drinking. Hold 3–5 years or drink 2023–2046. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
Vietti’s 2017 Barolo Lazzarito is absolutely gorgeous. Whatever the challenges of the growing season, they appear to have been no problem here. More than anything else, the Lazzarito impresses with its magnificent depth and stature. Super-ripe red fruit, white pepper, mint, tobacco, cured meat, spice and rose petal open gradually with time in the glass. I would not be in a rush to open bottles anytime soon. The Lazzarito has been one of the most improved wines at Vietti for a number of years. The 2017 is so captivating.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
A release of 8,760 bottles, the Vietti 2017 Barolo Lazzarito draws its fruit from Serralunga d’Alba and reveals a luminous garnet color. Compared to some of the others in this portfolio, the wine takes a little longer to open and express itself. It does, however, unfold to dark cherry, redcurrant, grilled herb, iron ore and candied orange peel. You need to give your glass a few extra vigorous swirls. Those rusty mineral notes build in intensity and drive the wine’s medium-long finish.

JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/13/2024
The 2020 Barolo Cerequio is fantastic on opening, with aromas of wet asphalt, dried raspberries, cranberry, and fresh roses. Medium-bodied, it has a more vertical feel through the palate, with fine tannins and fresh spine of acidity. Drink 2026–2040. (Audrey Frick)
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2024
The 2020 Barolo Cerequio once again confirms that buying this vineyard is one of the smartest decisions Vietti ever made. A wine of nuance and class, the Cerequio captures all the pedigree of this great site. Crushed red berry fruit, kirsch, blood orange, spice and mint soar out of the glass, all framed by nervy tannins that convey classicism. This is an exotic, racy Barolo. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2021 Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne is a fabulous, explosive wine. Sumptuous dark cherry, ripe plum, mocha, licorice and new leather are all dialed up to the maximum. This racy, deep Barbera is tremendous. For its quality-to-price ratio, the Asti Tre Vigne might be the wine of the year at Vietti. (Antonio Galloni)

From Serralunga, the 2020 Barolo Lazzarito displays more sapidity on opening, with aromas of fresh sage, balsamic herbs, preserved strawberries, and tea leaf. Medium-bodied, it is more structured, with broad shoulders, ripe tannins, and a more grounding sensibility without being heavy. It shows more savory richness, although is light on its feet. Drink 2026–2046. (Audrey Frick)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2024
The 2020 Barolo Lazzarito is a blend of fruit picked before and after the early October rains. It marries power and finesse to a notable degree. Dark red fruit, menthol, licorice, crushed rocks and dried herbs open nicely in the glass. This is a bit light for a Serralunga Barolo, although the tannic structure is there. This is missing a bit of personality. (Antonio Galloni)

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2019
This is the 13th edition that Vietti has come out with, over the span of 38 years, of this stunning Riserva, a wine that ultimately is produced only about once every four years or so. It was not made after the previous harvest, in 2011. The recent editions have been nothing short of spectacular, earning 100-point scores in both 2007 and 2009 and 99 points in its latest appearance, 2010. It’s a series that has set the bar extraordinarily high, and this 2012 Barolo Riserva Villero is a little less exciting in comparison. However, the wine holds its own as one of the most beautiful in the entire appellation and one of the best in the somewhat lackluster vintage. Balsamic and truffle notes pepper the palate of this handsome Barolo, but it’s just really hard to reproduce that magic, release after release, for a wine regularly expected to sell at several hundred dollars apiece. Some 3,300 bottles of this vintage were made.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Jun 2019
Vietti’s 2012 Barolo Riserva Villero is absolutely gorgeous. In 2012, the Villero is especially lifted and aromatic, showing a distinctly floral and red-toned expression of fruit rather than the darker, more balsamic inflections that are typical of this Castiglione Falletto cru. Light on its feet, fresh and graceful to its core, the Villero is another terrific wine from Vietti in 2012. Veins of Villero tannin and bright acids give the wine energy, vibrancy and tons of character. More than anything else, though, the 2012 Villero is a very clear continuation of a stylistic evolution that can be traced to the 2010 Barolo Ravera in which the Barolos are now made in a more traditional style than in the past, which includes malolactic fermentation in cask rather than barrique. In 2012, that approach was not in place for all the Barolos, but it is very much evident here.
