Domaine Michel Magnien Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2009 / 750 ml.

Item#: 40047

ST92+92–95 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2011
Full red-ruby. Captivating nose offers crushed cherry, rose petal, spices, smoke and vanilla. Lush, sweet and liqueur-like in the mouth, with good floral lift giving it a light touch. Really echoes with flowers and minerals. This very strong wine finishes long and subtle, with lovely mineral grip.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st May 2011
The 2009 Clos St. Denis presents lovely nuance and detail in its precise, perfumed fruit. This is totally elegant from start to finish, with silky tannins that give the wine its sense of proportion and balance. The Clos St. Denis was aged in a single new 600-liter barrel. Anticipated maturity: 2014–2024.

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Domaine Louis Jadot
2014 / 750 ml.

Item #: 44043

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2017
Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru from Louis Jadot (Domaine Gagey) has a very subtle and refined bouquet with pure red berry fruit, minerals, rose petals and orange blossom—one of the most entrancing aromatics of the vintage. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly tart entry, driven along by the acidity but with sufficient fruit tucked in just below. It fans out gloriously on the finish and leaves you wanting more. Quite simply, this is one of the finest wines from this grand cru vineyard. Tasted September 2017.

Bright, dark red. Ineffable floral and pepper topnotes to the aromas of black raspberry, tart cherry, licorice, menthol and spices. At once savory and sweet; incredibly dense, refined wine with uncommon creaminess and concentration to its flavors of red and black fruits, minerals and herbs. Superb old-vines thickness and silky depth here, but also with terrific definition, spine and energy. Finishes with outstanding rising length. A treat to taste today but this almost liqueur-like wine should go on for 20+ years. A great performance in this cooler vintage.
RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015
The 2014 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru is maybe the surprise package this year. It comes from very old vines planted in 1921. It has a really quite beautiful bouquet with very pure, mineral-rich wild strawberry and raspberry fruit — precise and wonderfully focused. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry, fresh and tensile but with intense tart red cherry and strawberry fruit fanning out on the finish. Très grand cru! This comes highly recommended.
VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2016
Medium bright red, not hugely saturated. Brisk, high-pitched perfume of black cherry, rose petal, red licorice and spices. Juicy, bright and light on its feet, showing outstanding sneaky intensity to the very concentrated flavors of raspberry, minerals and rose petal. Very dense, classy and fine-grained grand cru with a strikingly long, rising finish. This makes the Clos Saint-Jacques seem a bit lean by comparison. These are Jadot’s oldest vines, says Barnier, and they virtually always yield about 35 hectoliters per hectare.

ST92+92–95 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2012
Bright, dark red. Musky black raspberry and a whiff of game on the very ripe nose. Sweeter, fatter and silkier than the Clos de la Roche; at once more concentrated and less complex in the middle. Finishes savory, tactile and gripping, with very good peppery energy. Magnien’s holding lies at the bottom of Chaffots; the vines that go into this wine are picked first, then the rest of the juice goes into the premier cru Chaffots bottling.
RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Dec 2011
The 2010 Clos St. Denis sweeps across the palate with layers of expressive dark red berries, licorice, tobacco and mint. This is an especially sensual, silky Clos St. Denis that seeks elegance and finesse above all else. The 2010 is truly beautiful today, but Magnien thinks it will firm up quite a bit in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2025.
