Domaine Trapet Pere et Fils Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 56525

RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
Trapet’s 2019 Chambertin Grand Cru is a profound wine in the making, and it can keeps company with vintage’s finest. Wafting from the glass with deep aromas of cherries and cassis, complemented by notions of raw cocoa, blood orange, smoked meats, rich soil tones and spices, it’s full-bodied, multidimensional and complete, with a weightless, elegant profile despite its prodigious concentration, its structuring tannins entirely concealed in an ample core of lively, vibrant fruit.
VN94+94–96 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2020
The 2019 Chambertin Grand Cru has an intense bouquet of blackberry, briar and raspberry, interlaced with wilted rose petals and light ferrous aromas. The palate is very supple and voluminous, fleshy and generous, but maybe not quite as pixelated as the Latricières-Chambertin. It fans out wonderfully, though, and the lightly spiced finish just misses the intellect of Latricières. This represents a very serious Chambertin, and I would not be surprised if it lands at the top of my banded score.

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

The 2019 Bourgogne Pressonnier is cohesive on the nose of blackberry, boysenberry jam and light violet aromas unfurling with time. Silky-smooth on the entry (you might well mistake this for a Vosne-Romanée), building nicely in the mouth and showing good salinity on the finish. (Neal Martin)
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
Exhibiting aromas of cherries, raspberries, peonies and licorice, the 2019 Bourgogne Pressonnier is medium-bodied, deep and vibrant, with tangy acids, powdery tannins, and a long, penetrating finish. It’s the most serious and age-worthy of Roty’s regional bottlings. (William Kelley)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Thorey 1er Cru, which is two-thirds whole cluster, has a very focused bouquet of elegant red cherry, raspberry and briary aromas, plus a hint of bay leaf and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity thanks to the calcareous soils, and displays superb tension and focus toward the finish. A gorgeous, ethereal Aux Thorey.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has wonderful transparency on the nose of red currant and wild strawberry, plus glimpses of orange blossom and rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced and quite peppery in the mouth. Fine grip and length. This is a lovely Lavaux that will be difficult to resist in its youth. (Neal Martin)
RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques is promising, mingling aromas of cassis and smoky berries with hints of loamy oil, raw cocoa and potpourri. Medium-bodied, bright and lively, with a succulent core of fruit framed by ultra-refined tannins, it concludes with a long, perfumed finish. This is the highest-alcohol wine in the cellar in 2019, but that certainly didn’t stand out in the glass. (William Kelley)

The king of the cellar is the 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru, a magical wine in the making that unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, blackberries, rich soil tones, espresso roast, rose petals, licorice, oyster sauce and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it’s seamless and complete, with huge concentration, lively acids and rich, velvety tannins, concluding with a long, resonant finish. Well-connected and well-heeled readers will derive immense pleasure in comparing the 2020 with the 2019 and 2018 renditions several decades from now. (William Kelley)
VN95+95–97 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru was picked on 7 September and a small plot around five days later. It has a beautiful, quite ethereal bouquet with a complex mélange of red and black fruit, the 80–90% whole bunch completely assimilated with wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, harmonious and smooth, immense depth and elegance as it fans out towards the finish with perfect sapidity. (Neal Martin)

RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
There are around 30 barrels of Trapet’s 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a lovely wine that mingles notes of wild berries with hints of dark chocolate, exotic spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, it’s deep and lively, with powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish. This derives from eight different parcels spread throughout the appellation.
VN90+90–92 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is vibrant on the nose, featuring generous raspberry and cranberry and a touch of chalk dust and singed earth, quite complex for a "mere" Village Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Very elegant and refined, and the pure red berry fruit is lent spiciness by the 30% stem addition. Excellent.

RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
The lovely 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, red berries, rose petals and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and concentrated, its velvety attack segues into a layered, seamless mid-palate and a long, perfumed finish. It’s a worthy follow-up to the 2019. (William Kelley)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a fragrant and well-defined bouquet given lift by the 30–40% whole bunch. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy blackberry and raspberry fruit, a little granular in texture with modest weight. Strict and fresh, this delivers an attractive black pepper note on the finish. All that you really want from a Village Gevrey. (Neal Martin)
