Caprili Brunello di Montalcino Riserva AdAlberto 2016 / 750 ml.

Item#: 57140

SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022
A taut, linear red, hallmarked by cherry, strawberry, green olive, rose, sanguine and iron aromas and flavors. This is packed with fruit, backed by a solid matrix of tannins and an aftertaste of wild herbs, fruit and tobacco. Best from 2026 through 2045. 400 cases made, 200 cases imported.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ad Alberto is sultry and dark, captivating the senses with its mix of crushed stone, wild herbs, red currants, dried roses and ashen earth. The textures here are like pure silk, seamless and polished, with potent black fruits and savory spices that penetrate deeply as fine tannins mount under an air of tobacco and dark inner florals. It leaves the palate reeling with a combination of residual acids, tart berries and sour citrus, all held firm in youthful poise. The 2016 Riserva Ad Alberto is absolutely stunning, but it will require a number of years in the cellar to reveal all of its charms.
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Feb 2022
The Caprili 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva AdAlberto (with only 5,000 bottles produced) is a standout wine, showing intensity, smooth integration and lots of varietal personality. “Classic” is probably the best word to apply here, and I use that descriptor with care. The tannins are expertly integrated, and even at this young age, the wine shows no rough edges. It is polished and integrated to the end. Fruit comes from a single hectare of vines with rocky clay soils that lock in important moisture during the summer months.

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The Altesino 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva holds tight to its unique character and power. The classic 2016 vintage produced generous wines that are layered and rich but also coiled tightly at their core. This wine exemplifies this point, adding lots of tart Sangiovese fruit and freshness along the way. It also shows an impressive richness of flavors with dried cherry, licorice, pressed violets, balsam herb and dusty limestone. The caveat with this wine, should you decide to drink it early, is that it needs extra time to open (and a double decanting would also help). This 10,000-bottle production opens beautifully in time.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
A beautifully integrated and solidly built Brunello, this is hallmarked by textbook aromas and flavors of cherry, strawberry, iron, sanguine and tobacco. Delivers accents of herbs, earth and almond that emerge as it plays out on the long, detailed finish. Approachable now and should age over the next decade or more. Best from 2024 through 2040. 1,250 cases made, 750 cases imported.
VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is so incredibly dark and inward that it prompted me to open a second bottle just to confirm that impression. After an hour, the bouquet started to come to life, with hints of menthol and mint giving way to nuances of black currant and animal tones. It’s much more expressive on the palate, where silky textures are cooled by vibrant acids, and tart wild berry fruits mix with salty minerals and inner violet florals. The 2016 is long and structured, showing balsam herbs, black licorice and a flourish of inner sweetness. This is such an interesting showing as, other than the bouquet, all of the ingredients are here and well proportioned for a long, steady evolution. I’m very intrigued to see where this understated beauty is going over time. Until then, I chose to remain somewhat conservative.

Mature black-skinned berry, rose, tilled soil and a balsamic whiff of eucalyptus shape the nose. The bright, elegant palate has energy, tension and depth, delivering ripe wild cherry, red plum, licorice and crushed botanical herb. Taut, fine-grained tannins lend polished support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. A gorgeous wine. Drink through 2031.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2019
The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is rich, sensual and inviting, as it so often is. The addition of Merlot to Sangiovese yields a Chianti Classico built on textural resonance, with silky tannins, soft curves and tons of sheer allure. The 2016 won’t be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is unquestionably a great wine in the making. Succulent dark cherry, red plum, menthol, licorice, cloves and new oak infuse the creamy, voluptuous finish.
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Sep 2019
From the small vineyard facing Castello di Ama from the north, the 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows a dark and hearty side with rich fruit that flows steadily from the bouquet. Like the other new releases from this iconic estate, this wine shows a pretty earthy note that is particularly well defined and fine-tuned in this vintage. The fruit is broad, thick and horizontal. This is a Sangiovese painted with broad brush strokes. It’ll stand another decade or two, or open it sooner with a pappardelle al cinghiale.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2020
This aromatic Chianti Classico features violet, black cherry, leather, earth and spice flavors. A laser of bracing acidity and muscular tannins runs underneath. The balance tips toward the tannins today, but put this in your cellar for another few years. Sleek and very long. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2023 through 2042. 315 cases made, 40 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

A dense and layered red with spice and berry character. Medium to full body. Blueberry, wet-earth and walnut undertones. Iodine. Shows structure and intensity. Drink in 2020 and onwards.

Offers forthcoming aromas and flavors of blackberry, black currant, licorice, tobacco and vanilla backed by vivid acidity and dusty tannins, with a long, saline finish. Showing enough fruit and structure to absorb the oakiness over time, this is balanced overall and poised for a promising future. Best from 2026 through 2045. 800 cases made, 350 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
Rich and deeply alluring, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wafts up to display crushed ashen stone mixed with hints of ginger, dusty florals and black cherry preserves. This is velvety-smooth and pliant in feel, lifted by cooling herbal and mineral tones, as an opulent wave of ripe red and black fruits washes across the palate, leaving a staining of minerals and spice in its wake. It’s long and structured, in need of further time to come fully into focus, yet somehow the 2016 Riserva remains completely fresh, tapering off to inner earth tones and hints of blueberry. Time will reveal further depths. This is an utterly classic Uccelliera Brunello in the making.
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Feb 2022
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a terrific wine: bold, well-defined, powerful and balanced. There are many good things to relate, but the high alcohol content (measured at 15.5%) is the only distraction. This is a trend in the Riserva category in the 2016 vintage. The bouquet shows black cherry, cassis, earth, leather and dried roses. The palate offers soft fruit flavors supported by firm oak tannins. Coming back to the bottle 24 hours later, I found impressive integration and smoothness that took away from that alcohol heat. Production is 9,600 bottles.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
This is really polished and refined, yet remains polished and beautiful, with cherries and berries, as well as light hazelnut and walnut undertones. Compact and silky. Drink after 2024, but already so attractive.

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Cosimo from Palazzo takes things to a dark and richer place without sacrificing the energy and primary intensity that I’ve come to expect from this estate. An earthy mix of ripe blackberry and cherry is complemented by balsamic spice and black licorice. It’s velvety-smooth with excellent density to its ripe red fruits, yet not weighty or tiring in any way, as cooling acids and minerals balance the expression perfectly. Its tannins can be felt only in the finish, as this folds in upon itself and leaves you wondering what further depths will be revealed over time. Dedicated to the family’s father who passed in 2012, the Cosimo is from a parcel of the oldest vines in the vineyard, first planted by Cosimo Loia over thirty-five years ago. It’s a gorgeous wine. This was tasted over the course of two days and only got better. (Eric Guido)
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
This opens with aromas recalling pipe tobacco, blue flower, ripe woodland berry and oak-driven spice. Full bodied and savory, the enveloping palate features mature Marasca cherry, baked plum, vanilla and licorice accompanied by velvety, close-grained tannins. Drink 2024–2034. (Kerin O’Keefe)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 11, 2020
A dense, layered red with berry, walnut and cedar aromas and flavors. Some fruit tea, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and a solid finish. Tight and tannic. Give this three to four years to open. Drink after 2024. (James Suckling)
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/4/2021
This wine is dedicated to the memory of Cosimo Loia, who founded the estate in 1983. The Cosimo botting comes from the oldest vines of the estate, planted by Cosimo himself. The 2016 Cosimo Brunello is warm with fresh cherry fruit, baking spice, cedar, and sage. The palate is generous and ripe, with pure fruit and supple tannins. It was aged for 40 months in Slavonian oak barrels and French tonneaux. There is an approachability within its classic structure that is welcoming to drinking now. 2021–2031. (Audrey Frick)

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Sep 2019
The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista sees fruit sourced from one of Castello di Ama’s most beautiful vineyards with a wide exposures and plenty of sunshine. This wine shows profound complexity and a far-reaching bouquet that evolves slowly in the glass. Of these three single-vineyard Gran Selezione wines (Bellavista, La Casuccia and San Lorenzo), the Vigneto Bellavista is the most complete, but it is also the most linear and streamlined in terms of mouthfeel. I would bet on putting this wine aside in your cellar for a longer aging time.
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2019
Ama’s 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista is a flat out stunner. Dark and brooding in its first impression, the 2016 races out of the glass with explosive vertical lift. This structured, potent Chianti Classico won’t be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is immensely promising. Savory herbs, crushed rocks, chalk and dried flowers add myriad layers of dimension. The 2016 is complex, nuanced and built for cellaring.
JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, November 26, 2019
A glorious and racy red with ultra-fine tannins that are polished and very intense. It grows on the palate and delivers fabulous crushed raspberries, apple skins and wet earth. Lovely combination of ripeness and transparency. Drink in 2021, but wonderful to taste now if you decant it.
WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2020
Aromas of black-skinned fruit, dark spice and sunbaked soil mingle with whiffs of camphor and forest floor on this enticing blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera. The elegant, structured palate delivers black plum, ripe black cherry, star anise and crushed mint while firm, polished tannins provide support and finesse. It’s well balanced, with bright acidity, while an earthy hint of game gives the finish depth. Drink 2023–2036.

This red is all about finesse, delivering superb balance and complexity, with cherry, raspberry, earth and wild herb aromas and flavors. Succulent and charming, yet with a solid base of tannins and vivid acidity, this remains focused through the long aftertaste. Best from 2026 through 2042. 4,575 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is remarkably pretty, wafting up with a blend of violets and lavender before giving way to steeped plum lifted by mint. This is racy and sleek, with cooling acidity and mineral tones that excite the palate. Juicy acidity enlivens tart wild berry fruits. The 2019 finds its center through the finish, as fine tannins emerge and a crunchy sensation lingers. Licorice and bitter blackberry notes taper off slowly. In a word, fantastic. The balance of complexity, structure and energy places the 2019 very high in my book. (Eric Guido)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Dec 2023
The Caprili 2019 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a very pretty bouquet with a level of ripe fruit and pure cherry essence that does not come easily to a wine aged five years following the harvest. The primary fruit remains intact in this vintage. This village bottling shows velvety richness and concentration that stems directly from that exceptional fruit quality. There is rich texturing and fine chalky tannins to close. Some 55,000 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)
