Syrah (Shiraz)

Syrah (Shiraz)

Shop for Syrah (Shiraz)

You say Syrah, and I say Shiraz. Wine lovers will tell you they're the same grape, just from different settings. The Australian red wine, Shiraz, burst onto the scene in the 1990's and remains popular to this day, and it's hard to believe it's made from the same grape that's used to make the famous red wines of France's Northern Rhône. Thanks to the vastly different climates and terroir in those two places, the grape produces vastly different wines.

Other regions are having some success with Syrah/Shiraz wine, as well. California, South Africa, Chile, and others have created some stellar bottles in recent years.

If you're in the market for a red wine - Shiraz, Syrah...whatever you want to call it - look no further than WineMadeEasy.com!

  1. Chateau Maris Les Planels

    Cru La Livinière
    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#46064

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2014
Made from 100% Syrah, the 2012 Minervois Syrah Les Planels is impressive! Offering classic cassis, raspberry, licorice and hints of vanilla, it has fabulous purity, a lively, yet voluptuous and layered texture and a great finish. Hard to resist now, it should evolve gracefully for a solid 7–8 years.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2016
There is a freshness behind the savory spice and meaty notes in this medium-bodied red, with bright red berry, plum and bitter chocolate flavors pushing through midpalate. Grippy tannins define the zesty, herb-tinged finish. Drink now through 2018. 1,100 cases made.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53342

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 22, 2021
Based on 74% Syrah and 26% Grenache brought up in in a combination of concrete tanks (for the Grenache) and one year old demi-muids (for the Syrah), the 2018 Cotes Du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a knockout bottle of wine. It offers loads of black fruits, roasted herbs, peppered meat, violets, and bacon fat as well as full-bodied richness, a round, opulent style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster finish. It’s one of the finest values out there.

Inky ruby. Mineral- and spice-accented aromas of ripe dark berries and candied violet show outstanding clarity and lift. At once rich and energetic in the mouth, offering juicy blackberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors that slowly turn sweeter on the back half. Shows outstanding clarity on the long, penetrating finish, which features well-judged tannins and lingering floral and spice notes.

    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#45688

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jun 2017
Including just a splash of Viognier, the 2014 Estate Syrah from Force Majeure is a killer effort that possesses uncommon purity and finesse paired with serious depth and richness. Giving up notes of pure black currants, blueberries, graphite, violets and hints of peppery meats, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless texture, integrated acidity and fine tannin. Give this incredible Syrah 2–3 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following decade. Is this the SQN of Washington?

  14. K The Beautiful Syrah

    Powerline Vineyard
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#51023

    JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - April 11, 2019
The 2016 Syrah The Beautiful Powerline Vineyard is stunning and one of the finest Syrahs in the vintage. Coming all from Clone 470, co-fermented with 3–4% Viognier in concrete tanks, and brought up in mostly neutral oak, it’s a rich, meaty, smoky, full-bodied Syrah that has classic Northern Rhône-like aromas of black olives, smoked meats, ground, earth, and dark fruits. With a stacked mid-palate and beautiful balance, it’s going to keep for 10–15 years.
    JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, August 22, 2019
A charmingly fragrant wine that has abundant red plums, swathed in white pepper and fine-ground spices. The palate is smooth, plump and supple with good weight and depth of flavor, finishing boldly in an assertive yet still supple mode. A blend of syrah and viognier. Drink over the next decade.
    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2019
The 2016 Syrah The Beautiful is rich and lush on the nose with an impressive core of sappy fruit, savory essence, olive tapenade and crushed violets. The full-bodied palate is generous and compelling with a robust yet velvety base that demonstrates elegance with power. The wine glides over the palate, connecting structuring tannins and supporting acidity to carry this wine for more than a decade. The wine ends with a long and drawn-out finish, with mineral tension and lingering spice tones on the aftertaste. Just 1,135 cases were produced.
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2019
This red combines harmony with personality, offering evocative blueberry, black olive, river stone and smoky bacon flavors that build toward the dynamic finish. Drink now through 2027. 1,135 cases made.
