Turley Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard 2018 / 750 ml.

Item#: 53154

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Aug 2020
Inky purple-black, the 2018 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard opens with cassis and baked blue fruits accented by olive, cured meats, aniseed, dried herbs and floral notes. The palate is full-bodied but restrained, with a ripe, grainy frame and nuanced fruits, and it finishes long with a bright pop of juiciness. Give it another couple years in bottle.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2019 Zinfandel Steacey Ranch opens with a blast of dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and tobacco. Ripeness is decidedly pushed. Readers should expect an exuberant, flamboyant wine with generous dark fruit and tons of body. There is plenty of immediacy, but not a lot of subtlety. The Steacey Ranch Zinfandel is a wine of impact, that is obvious.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Feb 2021
The 2019 Zinfandel Steacy Ranch has a medium ruby color and opens with a touch of tarry reduction over a core of wild berry preserves and earth. Medium-bodied, the palate features dark, earth-laced fruits with a grainy frame and uplifted finish. Give it another year or two in bottle or a long decant. 1,070 cases produced.

Tasted from barrel, the 2019 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is dark, inky and so expressive. The purity of the fruit is just terrific. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, licorice and dark spice all meld together. Unctuous and flamboyant, the Hayne Petite is stellar. In 2019, the Hayne was one of the latest picks. This fruit came on September 28, 2–3 weeks later than normal.

Turley Cedarman Zinfandel 2022 / 750 ml.

2022 / 750 ml.

Item #: 62676

RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th Jun 2024
Blended with 22% Petite Sirah, the 2022 Zinfandel Cedarman hails from Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon Vineyards high atop Howell Mountain. Medium to deep ruby in the glass, the nose combines extremely ripe black fruits and loamy earth with botanical, herbal notes that meld with floral top notes after time in the glass. The palate follows the fruit-laden foreshadowing of the nose with massive saturation and intensity and transiting to a chewy, sinewy finish lined with juicy acidity nestled into a long, detailed finish. Lovers of a sumptuous style will find much to love upon release, although a few years in the cellar could provide an additional layer of nuance. (Matthew Luczy)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 8, 2024
Keenly structured and appealingly briary, this Zin is loaded with jammy blackberry, roasted anise and licorice flavors that build toward broad-shouldered tannins. Drink now through 2032. 1,200 cases made. (Tim Fish)
VN91+91–93 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2023
The 2022 Zinfandel Cedarman is stellar. Dark and imposing, the 2022 possesses tremendous intensity and plenty of Howell Mountain structure. Black fruit, licorice, incense, graphite, tobacco and dried herbs build, filling out the layers. Dense and resonant, this is seriously impressive. (Antonio Galloni)

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Jun 2023
The 2021 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1953. Opaque ruby-black in color, this has some rubbery touches on the nose that give way with time to blackcurrant, garrigue, cocoa powder, laurel leaves and charcuterie. The palate is lighter on its feet than the nose leads you to believe, with alluringly floral flavors and soft herbal undertones. It has a surprisingly refined texture, impressive freshness and a very long finish. Offer it 3–5 years in bottle. (Erin Brooks)

From vines planted in 1907, the medium ruby colored 2021 Zinfandel Steacy Ranch opens with some rubbery tones that give way to crunchy red fruit, mushroom, mint and earth aromas. The medium-bodied palate is soft and delicately styled with perfumed fruit, and it has a long finish with earthy accents. (Erin Brooks)

RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th Jun 2024
Owned by winemaker Tegan Passalacqua since 2012, this site was planted in 1915 on white sand soils on limestone bedrock. The 2022 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard opens with a slight reduction that gives way to ripe wild berries, dried orange peel, potpourri and tea leaves after significant aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, plump and quite generous at this stage, leading to an elegant, sweet-fruited and floral finish that begins on an evasive note but swells and builds in amplitude over time. Given the initial reduction and performance of the finish, this should benefit significantly from 2–3 years in bottle. It includes Mondeuse Noire, Carignan and Cinsault. (Matthew Luczy)
VN91+91–93 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2023
The 2020 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard screams with varietal character. Sweet red cherry fruit, Kirsch, cedar, new leather and pipe tobacco are nicely lifted in this mid-weight, textured Zinfandel. The 2022 has a bit more richness and mid-palate resonance than has been the norm. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2020 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard is absolutely gorgeous. Bright, intensely aromatic and light on its feet, the 2020 is immediately appealing, right out of the gate. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, red flowers and cedar lend aromatic intensity. This is an especially perfumed, gracious Zinfandel, even in 2020. (Antonio Galloni)
